Re: Big Boobs, Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes and White Skin = Progressive Insanity
I just love the irony of someone who changed their natural hair color, who uses fake tan products to mimic increased melanin, uses lip fillers to mimic what other ethnicities generally have in abundance naturally, chose to do an ad playing on the homophone of good genes/jeans. "I have good genes, which is why I spend money trying to hide how those genes are expressed."
Other than that, I’m kind of an outlier amongst the woke mob I guess, inasmuch I just can’t see the eugenics/white supremacy angle. There’s the “personality” line in the ad that’s classic eugenics, but I don’t think there was some conscious effort to utilize it that way. Most people (including ad executives) likely aren't elbows deep in genetics debates and research.
To me, they just took someone who is stereotypically beautiful according to most current societal norms, and did a play on genes/jeans. They probably never anticipated it going the route it did... but they are probably loving that it did. Controversy spurs conversation which ultimately elevates brand awareness. I didn't even know American Eagle was a thing before this.

THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.I think it is fair to say that we will never see an enforced leveling of society such that the gifted are denied the enjoyment of their gifts.

Somehow I find myself thinking that the people complaining about the ad are primarily trying to draw attention to themselves. Eugenics? That is really silly.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 4:55 pmI just love the irony of someone who changed their natural hair color, who uses fake tan products to mimic increased melanin, uses lip fillers to mimic what other ethnicities generally have in abundance naturally, chose to do an ad playing on the homophone of good genes/jeans. I’m pretty much on board with this take, but I believe that there was at least one person on the creative development team who ‘got’ the inside joke, and was hoping that there would be some degree of controversy, resulting in more exposure.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 4:55 pmOther than that, I’m kind of an outlier amongst the woke mob I guess, inasmuch I just can’t see the eugenics/white supremacy angle. Re: Big Boobs, Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes and White Skin = Progressive Insanity
Does anyone actually self-identify as a "cultural Marxist"? I seriously doubt it. And does the phenomenon labeled as "cultural Marxism" genuinely relate to the ideas of Karl Marx? Again, I have my doubts.
The whole concept strikes me as deeply ironic. American Eagle promotes blue-eyed, blonde women as having "good genes." Some people become sensitive or critical of this portrayal. Understandable. Such critics might commonly be labeled as "liberal" or "progressive," but I believe a more accurate description is "politically correct." Political correctness stems from recognizing that certain groups have historically faced disrespect or marginalization, leading to efforts to consciously portray these groups positively today. For instance, the politically correct action might involve highlighting a beautiful black woman and attributing "good genes" to her.
We can debate the merits or drawbacks of political correctness itself. However, my main issue is specifically with the term "cultural Marxist." It seems obvious to me that this term is strategically employed because right-wing focus groups have identified it as especially inflammatory or villainous. Consequently, it gets used intentionally as a rhetorical weapon in their broader campaign of hostility.

So far as I can see 'cultural Marxist' is just a term of abuse without any definite content. Thus for instance, I do not believe that Karl Marx's attempt to find a 'scientific' account of the motive power of history succeeds. So I am not a Marxist.
However, even if someone knows I am not a Marxist, and accepts my disavowal of any intellectual allegiance to the Marxist view of history and society, I may still be abused as a 'cultural Marxist' as a way of attacking me for saying that (e.g.) US citizens would be better off and healthier if they changed their health care provision model to something more like the system in Canada or France. It's just a way of making "you dirty rotten leftist" sound more intellectually respectable.

It is glaringly obvious to me that the hard left conservatives or MAGA types on this board just call anyone, who doesn't share their extreme ultra-right views, Marxists. To them opposing massive tax cuts for extremely wealthy oligarchs or wannabe oligarchs at the expense of further disadvantaging the least well-off citizens by taking away Medicare and other social security benefits they have paid into all their lives, is Marxism, as is dealing with their fellow humans with fairness, justice, compassion and genuine concern, as taught by Jesus Christ, in whom they claim to believe and worship.Chap wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 6:50 pmSo far as I can see 'cultural Marxist' is just a term of abuse without any definite content. No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

My visions of the future are fuzzy and could be in error. I project the politics of Epstein will make noise and then more noise and will be a distraction culminating in nothing.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 12:44 pmSure. Or we could all focus on serious issues instead of denim-clad cheesecake.
True. Hound is relentlessly committed to his strategy of lampooning the identity politics of the extreme left. As I have repeatedly said in the past, identity politics are a loser of a strategy for anyone.I note that the first person on this board to bring up the topic of this ad is Hound, and he will be the last person to talk about Epstein. MAGA priorities, yo.
But Hound does have a point about the stupidity of identity politics. This advertisement for jeans implying eugenics? That is dumb, really dumb. The author, Holly's, only excuse for such embarrassingly stupid statements is that she is being ruled by professional need to get more attention for her voice.

Actual Marxism is about economic class struggle: the working class (proletariat) vs. the elite (bourgeoisie). Marx believed the elite controlled the means of production and exploited workers by keeping the profits for themselves while paying workers just enough to survive. His solution? Revolution—workers seizing the means of production so the workers themselves benefited from what they produced instead of the elite.
Now take that same framework and apply it to culture instead of economics. Cultural Marxism means the working class rising up against the cultural elite. To understand that, you have to distinguish between “elite culture” and “working man’s culture.”
Elite Culture:
If anyone on this board is a “cultural Marxist,” it’s ajax18, Hounds of Heaven, and the rest of the red-hat vanguard waging Trump’s proletarian uprising against the Manhattan bourgeoisie.
Let the ruling classes tremble at the MAGA revolution. The workers have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a nation to win.
