Would DCP let Joseph Smith babysit his young teenage granddaughter?

Post by drumdude »

It’s a bit of a shocking headline question, I admit. It is a serious one, however. I have to ask believing Mormons if they could imagine letting someone like Joseph near their young loved ones. DCP’s granddaughter, and my daughters, will someday be the same age as Joseph Smith’s youngest wives. Would DCP really gamble with their safety?

Joseph’s first known affair behind his wife’s back was with their 16 year old orphan house maid. Was it sexual? We will never know for sure. But the fact remains that this was the beginning of Mormon polygamy. You could hardly imagine a more perfect vulnerable target for Joseph. Emma was furious and considered it an affair. Joseph had not even invented the idea of celestial marriage yet.

Joseph’s youngest known wife was just 14 years old. Think of the girls from Beehive and Mia Maid in your ward sitting with their husband Joseph in the pews.

I have to ask again, would any loving parent or grandparent of daughters trust Joseph around their girls? If not, what does that say about the beginnings of Mormonism? DCP wants us to consider the testimony of the Witnesses, well here it is:

Exactly the lack of character you would expect in a man who creates a fraudulent religion.

There was about 15 years ago a thread harkening to a similar notion. Something like, if the prophet asked for your 14 year old daughter to be his extra wife, would you believers give her up to him? There was a poster, a defender of the faith, who said he would if the prophet so asked. Unbelievable.

I think DCP would have to answer the same way. If the plates were real, then the logical consequence is that Joseph Smith was a real prophet and can do whatever he wants to your daughter.

This is my main issue with religious morality. It’s actually a very amoral system that requires the believer to cede their own intuition to other men in higher religious positions of authority. No thanks, I can do better than that.

Agreed. Good you're not a morally-blind lemming like Heber C. Kimball.

DCP wouldn't mind Joseph "marrying" his daughters or granddaughters, as long as DCP personally gained financially from the transaction. DCP is all about the money.
