The Sound of Music

Post by Shulem »

Allow me to say that at the core of my very being and within the essence of who I am, there is zero interest in embracing the idea of worshipping men dressed up in bedsheets. I find the whole concept repugnant and beneath me. I could go on and on about how the Christian religion grosses me out but this thread is not the place for that. I only want to say that a man presenting himself being wrapped about in what appears to be a bedsheet is quite disturbing to say the least. He looks like he escaped from a mental asylum and is dancing about like Maria in the hills and is late for Mass.

When it comes to Jesus, just say, “No!” But seriously, the Mormon statue of Jesus is simply another disturbing image of Christ and the world is moving beyond that sort of thing.

Oh yeah?!!!

What about the ancient Beliefnet legend that when Godzilla attacks us, the Christ Redeemer statue from Brazil, Christ of the Ozarks, and our own Christus statue will come off their pedestal and do battle with the terrible lizard before it can crush us underfoot? I personally feel happy they will be helping out the Statue of Liberty!

I'm with you, Shulem. I really don't like this logo. It blows chunks. It is just another corporate logo. Drab, uninspired, factory-issued dreck.

Kishy, get ready for the Church to descend into the realms of idolatry in which you never imagined!

Mormons will bow to their idol god!

Flee the cult now or face the horrors which are to come!

Seriously though, it seems rather spooky to me; just look how the public relations department has taken the Mormon-Jesus® statue and juxtaposed it with the new President of the Church. The contrast is unnatural and rather ghoulish in my opinion. The presentation looks scary, not sacred. Mormons have an unsatiable appetite to prove to the world that they too are Christians and they really want to own the title of being the best Christian church. For this reason, I can easily envision the official statue® ultimately becoming the symbol and representation of the imbodied Christ and embraced by all Mormons who desire to get closer to Christ by admiring the statue (graven image). In time they will be kneeling before it in reverence.

Spooky, indeed, and just in time for Halloween!

I agree, Shulem. It’s pretty bizarre. I didn’t know they brought Oaks back from the dead to make him prophet.

Indeed, the message and presentation are distorted and make for a bizarre Church advertisement. Note how the statue of Christ atop the draped pedestal is lower than Oaks and yet the message is “He is RISEN.” Oaks is seated in the forefront and his size dwarfs the stone statue of Christ who is confined to a remote pedestal in the far background. Note how Oak’s bald head cuts right into the letter S as if to suggest he is the dominant figure in word and in deed. Mormon Jesus appears to be a toy statue in the distance.

What a stunning PR disaster! This is so weird.

Your description fits well. The miniature Christus in the distance does look like an action figure or some such. Oaks has his bald pate over the giant S . . . . hmmm . . . odd that . . . could it be . . . oh, I don't know . . . a reference to SATAN?!?!?!?!

At first glance while googling about, I thought it was an anti-Mormon production that photoshopped Oaks having a ridiculous statue behind him and making a mockery of the resurrection. I thought it was propaganda produced to make fun of the church! I couldn’t believe my eyes and had to confirm it was from the church. The church has sunk to new lows and for me this was a significant jump. Former presidents of the Church would have never approved this kind of propaganda using an idol or graven image -- they would have been horrified. Thus we see how Mormonism is sinking into uncharted waters and it’s only going to get worse because the false prophecy of the second coming of Jesus will never happen and this will frustrate the church.
