Even ajax here has said as much when he claimed that the supposed treatment of Romney by the left so many years ago is what galvanized many right-leaning voters to later go with ‘the asshole’ on the right, regardless of his history of fraud, grift and corruption. When other people hear that excuse, what is the expected reaction?

But, hey … the alternatives are worse. After all, you can always go with acknowledging that many in the MAGA movement seem driven primarily or exclusively by racism and/or hatred of immigrants. They’re cheering on every example of yanking people out of their lives and kicking them out of the country, even if they are in the midst of the legal citizenship process, and even when they’re showing up to their final interviews. Why? It can’t be that they weren’t playing by the rules, right?

I don’t see much more that MAGA focuses on, and i don’t see the Administration making lives better for Americans in general when we’re trashing our reputation abroad, disparaging our allies and insulting long-term trade partners, turning our backs on any sort of assistance, and playing like Putin’s hand puppet, all while increasing the debt and deficit, and with inflation muddling on and prices on energy, groceries, housing and health care continue their climb.

So what’s in it for MAGA at this point except for the hatred?

The claim is that the constant, lazy, hysterical use of accusations like “racist,” “Nazi,” “fascist,” “sexist,” and “evil” as default labels for disagreement drives normal people away from the Democrats and toward other options, whether that means voting Republican, voting third party, or simply disengaging. If you search my past comments, I’ve said on several occasions that it’s preferable to label actions racist rather than people. That said, sometimes people may do as you’re describing above because they’re not ready to examine the reasons for their actions. And if two people are already in disagreement over fundamental issues concerning racism (as example), there may not be a political alignment between those individuals to begin with. But there’s also not much of a reason for, say, a Democrat to suddenly vote Republican because a more ‘left extremist’ Democrat accused the first of being racist for the nuance of a particular position. Switching alignments based on that disagreement alone is either retarded (to use one of your favorite words) or indicates that the person suddenly switching has some emotional issues to work out.

Nevertheless, there’s an excess of racist energy within the MAGA environment, as pointed out with the link posted upstream about their anti-semitism issue, the weird preoccupation with immigrants to the point of kicking out applicants 99% through their process, the public celebrations and heckling of same, to the leader of the MAGA base yelling on national television about how immigrants are eating other people’s pets.

All of that speaks to racism, to some extent. I won’t apologize for pointing it out, and if that makes you uncomfortable, then your discomfort isn’t my burden to try to shield you from.
