No one is forcing Mormons to get abortions.

Problem solved.
As you say, this bill isn’t about forcing Mormons to change their beliefs or practices. Here is a summary of what is proposed:
A YES vote would support creating a right to abortion before fetal viability—defined as a fetus’ ability to survive without extraordinary medical measures—and after fetal viability in cases of medical emergency; providing protections against professional discipline and civil and criminal liability for healthcare providers; and codifying a statutory reproductive right to freedom and privacy.
I’m guessing that the Church’s opposition is driven by men. It’s also worth noting, again, that this isn’t about forcing Mormons to do anything different than they already do. It’s no threat to religious freedom whatsoever. The Church is seeking to force non Mormons into not doing something that the Church thinks is wrong. There is nothing wrong with this bill. In fact, there’s a lot right with it.

Like Prop 8, the Church has made an error of judgement on this one. At least they are being honest this time about using donations to try and force their opinions on Non Mormons. Were Church Apostles 50% women (rather than 0% women), this would never have happened. 15 old Mormon men trying to tell all non Mormon women in Idaho what they can and can’t decide with regards to their own reproduction.

Imagine the uproar if the roles were reversed and the legislation was about telling the Mormon church that they cannot refuse to solemnise same sex marriages. How would the Quorum of Male Geriatrics feel about that?

By all means inform your members of the Church’s position as far as the bill is concerned for Mormons in Idaho. Send a letter to be read at Church, mention it at Conference. But funding and agitating activism to force through a view is something the Church has said that is wrong…when it’s directed against them. But here they are trying to generate the same thing that they don’t want to experience themselves. They couldn’t be more two-faced.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I think that at the end of the day the church is standing up for the life of the unborn. The rights of the innocent baby who cannot speak for itself. A potential child of God.

If its lawyers can see that the initiative is going to potentially open up a can of worms, as I mentioned in my post to Kishkumen, they will recommend that the church...on moral grounds...step forward. I support that.

An atheist is going to come at this from a different perspective. Seemingly any bill that comes under a "woman's right to choose", even if poorly written or being slanted in favor of the woman rather than the unborn child, will receive a high five from a certain class of people.

We've come to a place in the western world where the value of life has been minimized. It's sad to watch.

The law, as far as I know, generally doesn’t command people to donate their blood, organs, or bodily tissue to save another person’s life, even if it’s their own child’s. Why should pregnancy create an exception?

So sad that the church is willing to sacrifice the lives of its female members at the altar of Moloch.

It's sad to see the church violating its own teachings on abortion by donating to this initiative, and being so willing to see their own female members killed by Idaho law.

On the balance scale of women obtaining elective abortions at any stage of their pregnancy, and the loss of human life…the babies…where do you stand?

If some babies can be saved through legislative action which tightens up abortion laws are you supportive of that?

Do you have children?

Opponents of the bill take issue with the bills language concerning the Fetal Viability Standard being used and the Parental Consent standards. I’ve gone into some detail previously.

Without being subject to “fever dreams”.

Pointing to the bill’s language doesn’t prove it’s wrong. Explain what’s wrong with the viability and parental consent standards and why.

See my response to Kishkumen on page one of this thread.

How is that not a problem?
