Does it play Angine de Poitrine on it?The Before wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 1:17 amThe centerpiece of my living room is a 1936 Zenith Stratosphere Model 1000Z, fully restored by me.

The thing is, she didn't know any better. Ya gotta' know what questions to ask before answers can come. Cause and effect. That seems to be the case, more often than not.Gadianton wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 12:38 amWhen the Lord called upon Nancy Rigdon to marry Joseph Smith, was her failure to please the Lord in that she forgot to say, "realities are not quite as black and white as you might think they are, Joseph" or "Joseph, I'm sure you've considered the possibility that there are many and varied ways that people can serve God."
Had she said that, the Lord would have fully understood and there would have been no problem -- right?
And it wasn't her fault. It was really no one's fault. Different times, different questions that would come up.
On the other hand, Ann Eliza Young started asking questions and look where it got her! The world is an 'act and acted on' place where agency and ignorance/knowledge seem to play right into the scheme of things.
One might hope/expect that there are 'fail safes' to deal with the inequities that come up as a result. Otherwise, things are really screwed up, right?
Regards,
MG

I think you are on the right track here. However I think it’s the vocal online seniors themselves deciding what the Lord would or wouldn’t have a problem with. They’ve forgotten about trusting Him and taking that leap of faith. They are too comfortable living their lives of convenience. So they will write checks with their mouths that they have no intention of cashing through actual effort and action.Gadianton wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 12:38 amWhen the Lord called upon Nancy Rigdon to marry Joseph Smith, was her failure to please the Lord in that she forgot to say, "realities are not quite as black and white as you might think they are, Joseph" or "Joseph, I'm sure you've considered the possibility that there are many and varied ways that people can serve God."

They believe in the Church and sustain the Apostles only as far as it’s convenient to themselves. And there are some clear examples that prove this point, you just cannot take their claims of belief seriously when they show in their deeds that their belief, when it comes down to it, is rather halfhearted. Their Apostles, and therefore their Lord, is disappointed in their lack of response to the call. But they will always find a way to justify it to themselves.
Here by way of an example, one very vocal Mormon senior explains that serving a senior mission instead of spending his senior years pleasing himself, was never even contemplated…
...coupled with a refusal to answer the Lord's call to serve a senior mission.I hasten to add, yet again, that no donations to the Interpreter Foundation and no tithing funds are paying for this trip of ours. Over the years, we prioritized saving for travel, knowing that we enjoyed it and that we would want to do it after I retired and, when we began actually counseling with a retirement advisor, we set aside a substantial portion of our savings from future trips. Some people choose to invest in speedboats, mountain cabins, continually new cars, recreational vehicles, updating kitchens, and so forth. Our choice was different. That fact, and not pilfering funds from Interpreter, explains our ability to travel...
Don’t get me wrong, I think that the Apostles trying to assert that seniors should spend their retirement years paying to provide church services is coercive and manipulative. Guilting them away from their families and draining their retirement funds is tantamount to abuse. So I’m on the side of “don’t” serve a senior mission. But I don’t think you should be issuing comprehensive belief statements about something you’re really only lukewarm on, when it comes down to it.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Well that's just it, the saying goes "you can't put new wine in old bottles" is true, it's not a moral truth however, it's a normal fact of the matter. Older people with more experience are less likely to be manipulated (note that in our political culture, the readily manipulated old people have been on this track for 50 years already and so ignorance is baked into them). What MG is saying is that the Lord went after Nancy when she was hopefully too young to question him. The fact that he got owned so readily, she wasn't about to let him put his filthy paws all over her, indicates that the Lord should stick with fourteen (and below?) as those additional two years matter a lot in terms of independence.IHQ wrote:I think you are on the right track here. My brother recently returned from a senior mission. It seemed clear it was a positive experience. I like to think he did it from a real desire not robotic obedience. I think the second would have rather spoiled it for him.

You’re making my point. The difference between your brother and those blowhards professing belief online, is that your brother had “real desire”, and they, despite all their protestations of true belief, don’t. They’re “less than” real believers.huckelberry wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 4:52 pmMy brother recently returned from a senior mission. It seemed clear it was a positive experience. It's a disingenuous comment, since he already admitted that Interpreter paid for their transatlantic airfare and for part of their initial hotel stay (and meals). We can probably safely assume that their return airfare is getting billed to Interpreter, too.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 6:11 amHere by way of an example, one very vocal Mormon senior explains that serving a senior mission instead of spending his senior years pleasing himself, was never even contemplated…I hasten to add, yet again, that no donations to the Interpreter Foundation and no tithing funds are paying for this trip of ours. The Proprietor has lied with such consistency for so many decades that telling the truth would probably short-circuit his nervous system.Doctor Scratch wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 5:21 pmIt's a disingenuous comment, since he already admitted that Interpreter paid for their transatlantic airfare and for part of their initial hotel stay (and meals).
