Incorrectly translating Egyptian papyri as a means of revelation is unprecedented.
Wouldn’t you agree, shulem?
Interacting with the divine with an Iron-banded Jasper with an included screen that displayed parchment was indeed unprecedented but it did send a signal for all leaders to use teleprompters.

Ha! In all seriousness I think we should remember that critics may single out unique aspects of Mormon history while ignoring the fact that ancient biblical prophets also used physical objects to interact with the divine.
Also important to consider/remember is that visionary experiences, seer stones, and material objects used in divination were culturally familiar artifacts in early 19th-century folk traditions.

Hey look ...everybody is doing funky things. It was not the original... play that funky music white boy juxtaposed with Paul Revere & The Raiders Cherokee nation.
I’m not sure I’d be appealing to Old Testament divination practices to defend Joseph. False prophets and diviners also used physical artifacts but that didn’t make their claims authentic.
For example, there’s no biblical account of an authentic prophet placing a personal treasure seeking stone into a hat and reading dictated scripture from it. I’d say Joseph’s employment of his seer stone is more closely aligned to false divination. It looks more like an imitation of revelation, much like other doctrines he pretended came from God.
