If Milley cared about National security he should have refused to comply with Biden's poorly planned withdrawl of Afghanistan. Seeing as these genearls apparently have the right to disregard the orders of a sitting president, Milley is just as much to blame for the casualties in Afghanistan as president house plant Biden.
Like clockwork, once refuted on one idiotic talking point, you just move to another Brietbart flavor of the day. Milley didn't "disregard orders" from a President. He did his job, much to the chagrin of unlawful Republicans who'd rather live in a fascist state under an autocrat. What Biden did was nothing short of a miracle, evacuating more than 130,000 civilians from Afghanistan and not a single American civilian lost their lives despite the constant round-the-clock opining from Right Wing media assuring us the Taliban were about to gun them down at any moment.
"Poorly planned"? The only reason this became an issue is because the Afghan forces laid down their guns and handed the keys over to the Taliban. Is that something you plan for? No, because nobody thought that was even possible, but once it did happen, Biden managed the situation about as well as could be expected. With the exception of one rogue ISIS-K attack that left a dozen soldiers dead. But 60 American soldiers died in Afghanistan from similar attacks during the Trump administration, and I don't recall anyone on the Right pitching a fit about how it is Trump's fault that soldiers die in war zones. What we know now, thanks to President Biden, is that no more American soldiers will be dying in Afghanistan.
Jumping to conclusions about Gen. Milley without even reading the relevant data is textbook GOP.
I have to ask, though probably wasting my time. But how many times does one of Trump's closest confidants have to turn on him before you begin to think to yourself, hey maybe I got this guy all wrong if all these respectable military types are constantly calling him some variant of moron or threat to the country? Why is it that the first knee jerk reaction is to scream "deep state conspiracy"? Why give the benefit of the doubt, constantly, to a career con man?
Are people like ajax so brainwashed by Brietbart and the like that they've completely abandoned any sense of, well, common sense? The one constant throughout Trump's tenure as a politician and even as a celebrity, is that those who know him best despise him. His own sister said he is a charlatan who paid someone to take the SATs for him so he could get into a college. Hell his own wife swore in a court deposition that Trump raped her one night after he reacted like a baby because he didn't like the hair transplanting his doctor did for him. His current wife is seen distancing herself from him while President, refusing to hold his hand, etc. Now we have military official after military official, and former aide after former aide, consistently telling the same exact stories about how Trump was nothing more than a petulant child while in office. I mean, telling the VP to break the law for him otherwise, "I don't want to be your friend anymore"? Seriously? We know he said it because it is consistent with what we've been hearing for years, and Pence never denied it.
Most of the people you' mentioned are left wing Democrat and even not so pink communists, especially the woke General Milley. He seems to be more concerned with ridding military leadership of conservatives and indoctrinating the recruits in critical race theory than he is with national security. Of course he's going to brag about breaking the chain of command and consulting China before elected Republican officials. He's more loyal to the CCCP and the Taliban than he is Republican voters.
The right is more concerned with what President Trump says while the left is more concerned with how he says it. Let me ask you what is wrong with putting America first?
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.
The new book is set to premier on Sept 21. Making this new thread because details are starting to come out and we're obviously gonna need a place to discuss.
On the heels of the Jan 6th Insurrection. Excerpts.
Woodward and Costa write that Milley, deeply shaken by the assault, 'was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election, with Trump now all but manic, screaming at officials and constructing his own alternate reality about endless election conspiracies.'
Milley worried that Trump could 'go rogue,' the authors write.
"You never know what a president's trigger point is," Milley told his senior staff, according to the book.
In response, Milley took extraordinary action, and called a secret meeting in his Pentagon office on January 8 to review the process for military action, including launching nuclear weapons. Speaking to senior military officials in charge of the National Military Command Center, the Pentagon's war room, Milley instructed them not to take orders from anyone unless he was involved.
"No matter what you are told, you do the procedure. You do the process. And I'm part of that procedure," Milley told the officers, according to the book. He then went around the room, looked each officer in the eye, and asked them to verbally confirm they understood.
"Got it?" Milley asked, according to the book.
"Yes, sir."
'Milley considered it an oath,' the authors write.
The book also examines Joe Biden's decision to run for office again; the first six months of his presidency; why he pushed so hard to get out of Afghanistan; and how he really feels about Trump. CNN obtained a copy of "Peril" ahead of its release on September 21.
Then Milley received a blunt phone call from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to the book. Woodward and Costa exclusively obtained a transcript of the call, during which Milley tried to reassure Pelosi that the nuclear weapons were safe.
Pelosi pushed back.
"What I'm saying to you is that if they couldn't even stop him from an assault on the Capitol, who even knows what else he may do? And is there anybody in charge at the White House who was doing anything but kissing his fat butt all over this?"
Pelosi continued, "You know he's crazy. He's been crazy for a long time."
According to Woodward and Costa, Milley responded, "Madam Speaker, I agree with you on everything."
"Peril" also describes the tense encounter in the Oval Office on January 5 when Trump pressured Pence to overturn the results of the election. While the showdown went on inside, the two men could hear MAGA supporters cheering and chanting outside near Pennsylvania Avenue.
"If these people say you had the power, wouldn't you want to?" Trump asked.
"I wouldn't want any one person to have that authority," Pence said.
"But wouldn't it be almost cool to have that power?" Trump asked, according to Woodward and Costa.
"No," Pence said. He went on, "I've done everything I could and then some to find a way around this. It's simply not possible."
When Pence did not budge, Trump turned on him.
"No, no, no!" Trump shouted, according to the authors. "You don't understand, Mike. You can do this. I don't want to be your friend anymore if you don't do this."
Trump called Pence again the morning of January 6. "If you don't do it, I picked the wrong man four years ago," Trump said, according to the authors. "You're going to wimp out," he said, his anger visible to others in the office.
There's too much to unpack in one post. It goes on and on and on.
Ajax, for the love of god, the CCCP is not now, nor has it ever been, China.
A couple of weeks ago, you said you were considering not traveling to Australia since New Zealand was closing down because of COVID--as if Australia and New Zealand were the same country. Now you confuse the defunct USSR with present-day China.
