Agreed. He especially made up the stuff he wrote prior to his excommunication. Or if it's damaging to the church, he must have altered the dates to make it appear that it was written prior to his excommunication.dartagnan wrote:This could be huge folks.
Here is an easy prediction for you. The apologetic front will insist this man was just making stuff up because he was excommunicated (due to his unrepentant nature of course) and thus, he was merely grinding his axe against the Church.

If this is the guy I think it is his story is bigger than Brigham Youngs. It's very tragic. My last couple posts at MA&D had to deal with Brigham Young's speech about blacks to the Utah Legislature. Someone there pointed out that the man that recorded it was excommunicated. Somone else posted a thesis or something that someone wrote about him at FARMS. When I read it my heart broke. After he left Brigham Young's office he was basically assigned to be part of a communist experiment in the southern part of Utah. His three children died from malnutrition. Brigham Young owned over a hundred companies and lived like a king. If this is the guy, I would love to write a paper on him and give him his due. People need to know that these people that ran Utah in the late 1800's were not saints.

Glad you liked it. Whenever I read Arrington, I fell asleep.
I had that book but gave it to a friend. Never finished it.

Serious? I've really enjoyed it so far, and I also liked "The Mormon Experience," but granted he had Davis Bitton along for that ride. Do you have any other Church books you'd be interested in selling?

Sorry! About 4 years ago, I dumped them all off to a library in Silver Spring, Maryland. They got them for free. I had everything up to 1984 and a little stuff after that. But, it was pretty nice, as collections go.
Too late. I would have been happy to give them away to you.
The one with Bitton is history lite, in my estimation. Boring. The farther away I was from activity in the church, the more boring it became. Great Basin Kingdom was OK.
Anyway, to each his own. I didn't find Bushman's Beginnings of Mormonism, or whatever that one was called, very interesting, either. I also didn't like Quinn's Magic World View, but to each his own. I haven't bought Mormon books at all recently, but there are tons on line worth downloading.
I would like to read Bagley's Blood of the Prophets. I don't know what else I would pay money for. I did pay some money for some Dale Morgan stuff. That is worth the shipping for sure.
Otherwise, I don't have time to read Mormon stuff anymore. It's way down on the list.
