Pohlman's talk (before it was slaughtered by modern day scribes) actually encouraged personal responsibility and the need to nurture a direct relationship with Christ. And yeah, it contrasted the between the gospel and the church - because they never were one in the same.
I thought that was one of the best talks I ever came across in a GC. in my opinion, it lined up perfectly with what the Book of Mormon actually teaches in 3 Nephi 27, the separation between Church and gospel.
Honestly, this was my view of the gospel/church as a latter day saint - because I actually read the Book of Mormon too.
It's a shame when the leadership won't even read their own book. There's Smith setting a precedence again.

I love how you censored out that naughty word. I had a SP once who spoke to the youth about profanity and he said even words like heck, crud, and flip are profanity. Us poor kids had no clean way of expressing ourselves.
