Um, you really don't see the difference?

Atheists don't claim to be Christians. Christians do.

What you're complaining about is roughly equivalent to an atheist whining about a Christian calling him out on praying to some god in a moment of stress. A Christian would be totally justified in criticizing an atheist for that, given the atheist's purported world view.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
