Will someone put a bullet in the idea that Mormons can mainstream via cinema?

And that is why Romney ran as the Republitard's horse in the 08 race.

Hey, wait a minute......something seems very un-mainstream, namely Mormonism.

Romney will try again in 12. He will lose the nomination. Once again Mormons will be less and less mainstream.

"This coming from a 21st century Archie Bunker"

Personal reflection is always healthy. Reflecting off others isn't. So far all I have seen from you (not much different from the past) is negative, hate-filled diatribes repeatedly reminding us of your unhealthy fixation with everything Mormon. Or perhaps everything.

Republitard? Really? Is that necessary?

"Trolling you is too easy."

Personal self promotion can be mildly healthy. Exaggerated self-promotion, however, can be bad.

*shrug* I am perplexed with folks like you. While I ask questions, I am happy that I don't find the need to get worked up anymore. I do hope you find peace in your life, because at current it feels like you still have a lot of pent up anger.

This guy (jskains) is starting to sound like Wade. I'm waiting for him to exploit the 'mirroring' technique.

That would be a lot of fun. Anyway, for me, the board was getting kind of dull until just recently. I'm glad he's back because now Dr. Scratch is back (after his summer break?).

Mercury,

I finally got to watch the trailer. That movie looks excellent, thanks for posting it. Good Mormon movies are few and far between. Best Two Years was decent, Pride and Prejudice wasn't bad either. This one your linking looks way bettwer.

I can't wait for the Academy Awards.

Actually, Merc, I'm intrigued. I just watched the trailer. It looks like it could be a very quality film.

What bothered you about the trailer? Was it simply that the in-laws thought the Church was a cult?

I agree that not everyone thinks we're a cult, and presenting that aspect may be a little far-fetched....but then again, it's a movie. There should be a couple of "larger than life" points to make the plot interesting.

It looks like it could really open people's eyes about the type of pressure that a bishop, who is really just trying to be a normal guy and a good father, goes through.

If nothing else, I think it could be a wake-up call for insensitive Church members who just think they can dump all of their problems on the bishop at any time of the day or night.

I loved the father's last line in the trailer, when his son is talking about when he leaves for his mission. The son says, "I'm leaving for my mission on December 26th."

The kids go into this litany of...."That's the day after Christmas....four days after I get married, etc..." and the Dad ends with "and the day I go insane."

Classic!

My Dad was in the bishopric when I grew up, and my husband's Dad has been both a bishop and a Stake President. I really appreciate the portrayal of the endless hours these men put into their calling, while trying to maintain a job, and balance family needs.

I like that you dug up this thread 3 years later. I expect the evangelicals to try to stop Romney from winning the nomination like they did with Huckabee. But it's probably too little, too late. I wouldn't say it's a sure thing yet.
