As I noted in the other thread, the only "evidence" anyone has for the "washed down the hill" theory is that someone saw some flat rocks at the bottom of the hill and assumed they must have been part of the box.

Considering the size of the objects that were preserved in the box, the stones must have had at least some weight. Can you imagine what kind of rainfall would be required to move such rocks down a hill of that size?

I always like the explanation that one of the Whitmers carted it back to his home and planted a flower bed in it.

Moroni needed the box to hide his porn stash.

I wouldn't be so quick to arrogantly equate my doubt in a simple apologetic argument with doubt in the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Not everyone is so eager to join the sad and bitter stew I see bubbling around here.

Your missing the option of "slipping" further into the earth

Post by _badseed »

Your missing the option of "slipping" further into the earth......much like all the treasures that the Smith and Co Treasure Digging Co. failed to recover. Removing the weight of the plates from the stone box obviously initiated some sort of boobie trap a la Indiana Jones.

But forget about the box. What I want to know is where is in the cave? You know the one where the plates were returned. The one with the Sword of Laban and the breastplate and all those other records. One would think it'd be far easier to find than a little box.
Crawling around the evidence in order to maintain a testimony of the Book of Mormon.

My favorite line in that thread is that the box wouldn't have had any value with the contents gone. Could no one of that era and environs have anticipated that a 1,400 year old stone box would be a valuable treasure?

I voted "it was no longer needed".

If the gold plates were "taken up" to heaven, why not the stone box, too?

As foretold in the sealed plates:

"Yea, and now there shall come to be a great curse upon the land,
because of the iniquity of the people, in the which, if a man should
open a box of stone, or go thither unto the place whither he would
surely find it, and behold, upon the morrow, he shall not find it,
for I, Mahroni, would that thou should know, that cursed are they
that shall not hide up their boxes; yea even boxes for reception
of the tool of Nephi. For in that day, the righteous shall hide up
their treasure boxes; but unto the unrighteous, lo, and behold,
their boxes shall become slippery and no longer shall the tool,
nor any holy thing be found in them; for they shall be a slipping
away into the bowels of darkness and unto the gnashing of teeth."
