Plus, the mountains would be nice to have over us, to protect us from tornadoes.
I once lived in Oklahoma too, specifically Stillwater. I taught there for a semester and loved how nice the people were but hated leaving the campus area because it became deliverance scary. The wind and the pests were the things I remember most about Oklahoma...oh and great cost of living.

Where do you live that you can do all that, I am guessing CA? I am jealous. Do you miss DC? DC was fun for a while but it has been wearing on me with the crime issues, cost of living, and having baltimore as a hat.

Yea, socal - oc. I don't miss DC at all (I was just out there 2 weeks ago and was happy to leave) - although I worked a block from the whitehouse and got to do some pretty cool stuff.... I moved out here from the DC area about 8-9 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made...that, and buying a house 4 miles from the office :)...

Isn't DC expensive? Would the reduced cost of living make up for the pay cut? in my opinion, living around family is worth it. Kids get to visit grandparents and cousins more frequently. For me it would depend on how big of a cut it was, but the closer proximity to family would make me consider it.

Do you like high desert climate? The mountains are amazing. Do you like to ski?
Do you like to buck the system? As an NOM, that, you will do.

Yep, DC is way to expensive, I have a 45 minute commute and I work close to southeast DC. I would love to have my wife by her family again.

I do like that climate and I think Utah is beautiful, specifically the mountains. I am a horrible skier so that would have to be developed. I guess I will learn more about this buck system.
