joaninwa,

Did I lose you? I hope not! Take a look at this summary by Dr. Jan Garavaglia. I listened to this "live".

Chief medical examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia also testified on Friday, saying she believed that Caylee's death was a homicide and not an accident. Garavaglia based her decision on three reasons:

[1] The fact that Casey took 31 days before she reported Caylee missing raised a "red flag"

It's definitely a red flag but what if you were Cindy Anthony's daughter or husband? What might you do to avoid her wrath?

[2] The fact that Caylee's remains were "tossed in a field to rot in bags...as though she was a piece of rubbish"

Or tossed there by George (or Kronk?) to make it look like a kidnap/murder

and

[3] The fact that there's no reason for the duct tape to be put over Caylee's mouth after she has died or if she had died an accidental death.

There is no reason to do this except...what if you were the husband of Cindy Anthony (who was definitely going to blame not only her daughter but YOU as well) and an ex-cop who knew how to stage a kidnap/murder?

My personal jury is still out on this case.

joanina, please come back!

p.s. wftv had 13,000 people viewing on their live blog during the trial on Saturday morning. Whew!

With the Prosecution about to rest it's case and after watching 29 days of trial video, I'm going to lay out the evidence as I see it, in no particular order:

Caylee Anthony is thought to have died on June 16th.

Casey Anthony's Behavior/Demeanor From June 16th - July 16th

Casey Anthony displayed no remorse, no guilt, no grief during the days that followed. In fact, she was reported as going to night clubs, shopping with other people's money and bad checks, etc. (This is why she plead guilty to --I think--6 counts of felony fraud.), getting a tattoo, renting videos. All acquaintances reported her behavior as "normal". During this time she avoided face-to-face contact with her family and told her mother, Cindy Anthony, a string of what are now proven as lies with regards to her location, Caylee's location, employment, etc. The lies were proven via testimony of friends, store and bank video tape, cell phone "pings", follow up by detectives and by her own admission.

Cadaver Dogs

Two Canine units responded to calls from the Orange County Police Dept. to search the area surrounding the Anthony house on Hopespring Dr. Based on what I heard, they were let out of the car and let off leashes in the back yard. I don't recall hearing that they searched the garage or any part of the house. Both dogs "hit" on the area near the play house. The next day, after the ground had been dug and raked, they failed to hit on that area, probably due to the fact that whatever surface material smelled of human decomp. the day before had been disturbed and likely distributed so as to dissipate into the atmosphere.

Forensics re: Apparent Human Decomposition in Trunk

Forensics regarding the presence of apparent human decomposition in the trunk of the car seem convincing. I have no dispute with these examinations and their findings. Coffin flies, stains, etc. all lead me to believe that Caylee's body was (at some point) stored in the trunk of the white Pontiac Sunfire.

The problem I DO have with this evidence is that there is an obvious gap between the time that Caylee is presumed to have died and the presence of the odor of human decomp. in the trunk. Unless I missed something in the testimonies, both George and Tony Lazzaro, laid eyes on the car, the trunk and were in proximity of the trunk when opened on or around June 23 and June 24.

Where was the body of Caylee Anthony during that time?

This is presumed to be 7 days after death.

Gas Cans

It is a known fact and testified to under oath, that Casey Anthony ran out of gas on June 23rd and that she and Tony Lazzaro broke into one of the sheds at the Anthony home to take out 2 gas cans which George reported missing.

(Keep in mind that he reports 2 gas cans missing from a shed, but later when he smells what he believes is the odor of human decomp coming from the Sunfire, he calls no one. )

On June 24th, Casey returns to the house on Hopespring drive and backs into the garage. George asks her about the gas cans. She reportedly brushes past him, opens the trunk, shoves the gas cans at him and says "Here's your damned gas cans."

George does NOT report the smell of human decomp. at this time.

Tony Lazzaro, does NOT report the smell of human decomp. at this time. He testifies under oath, that he did not smell anything unusual coming from the trunk.

It is 7 days after Caylee is presumed to have died. Late June in Florida with high temps. To this I say, "huh?"

Conclusion: Even though Canine units "hit" on the same area in the back yard, and the smell of human decomposition was detected by three people, there is a time gap between the yard and the trunk of the car.

One Gas Can Later Found with Duct Tape

This is after the body of Caylee Anthony was located on Suburban Dr. on Dec 11th. The skull has duct tape attached to the hair mat. Police seize a gas can with duct tape on it.

The prosecution is attempting to prove that somehow this is the same duct tape that Casey used to smother Caylee after she used chloroform to sedate her.

The problem with that is that both of her parents testified that George put the piece of duct tape on the gas can.

Conclusion: This evidence means exactly nothing.

Smell of Human Decomposition in the Trunk

The car was transported from the Amscott by a tow truck driver who testified under oath, that he was familiar with the smell of human decomp. and identified that smell coming from the car.

Does the tow truck driver call the police? No.

George Anthony who retrieved the car at the tow yard and who is also familiar with the smell of human decomp. testified under oath that he, too, also identified that smell coming from the car.

Does George Anthony (a ex-cop/detective who has worked homicide cases) call the police? No. He rolls down the windows and drives the car home.

Cindy Anthony who is an RN, also identified the smell of human decomp coming from the car in her now infamous, 911 call. Under oath, she appears to recant this by saying that she said anything she could think of to illicit a rapid response from the police.

Conclusion: Something is fishy about this. Two people, with experience in detecting the smell of human decomp, testify under oath that they identified this odor coming from the Sunfire and neither one of them reports it. (!) The third, Cindy Anthony, reports it only after she finds out Caylee has been missing for 31 days and claims she mentioned the smell for the sole purpose of getting the police over to the house quickly.

Duct tape in General

Yes, the Henkel brand duct tape was found on the skull and on the gas can. It was also identified in an wftv video of a "booth" set up to distribute flyers or whatnot on the table. Cindy Anthony testifies that both she and George used the duct tape.

Conclusion: There is no direct line between Casey Anthony and the duct tape. The connection simply doesn't exist.

Heart Shaped Sticker "residue outline" on the Duct Tape Found on Skull

A forensic examiner testified that during her examination of the duct tape, she detected the outline of sticker residue on the tape in the shape of a heart. She is not required by law to do anything about this other than document it in writing in her report. She informs her supervisor of the outline. She does NOT photograph the outline. Later, when it comes for re-examination, the residue heart shape no longer appears on the duct tape.

Heart Stickers in the Anthony Home

A series of heart stickers were located and seized in the Anthony home. None of these has been matched to the heart shaped outline that no longer exists on the duct tape.

Raised Heart Sticker found in the area of the Remains

This fits in with why the heart stickers were seized and why the heart residue outline on the duct tape is so important to the investigation. However, the heart outline no longer exists, there is NO possible way to tie this particular raised heart sticker OR the sheets of stickers found in the Anthony home to this heart.

Conclusion: The heart sticker evidence simply doesn't carry any weight. The prosecution is banking on the jury just "buying it". There is NO physical evidence tying the heart sticker sheets, the raised heart sticker to the residue on the duct tape--in fact, the residue reportedly found on the duct tape simply disappeared.

Just zooming in on the Pontiac Sunfire:

June 23: Casey and Tony Lazzaro break into the shed to get the gas cans.
June 24: Casey (in the Sunfire) returns the gas cans to George Anthony

(No strong smells are reported coming from the car by Tony or George)

June 27: Casey reports a strong smell on the car via text to Amy H. thinks that
George ran over an animal while driving the car (!) the week prior.
June 27: Casey abandons the car at the Amscott.

Jul 12: George and Cindy find the notice that the car had been towed.
Jul 15: George and Cindy go to the impound lot to pick up the car.

George has the lot manager go with him to get the car. He mentions
that he hasn't seen Casey or Caylee for almost a month. He later reports that at that time, he smelled what he believed to be human decomp and says a prayer before he opens the trunk. He opens the trunk of the car and finds two trash bags (from Tony Lazzaro's) in the trunk. The lot manager throws the trash bags in the nearby dumpster and George drives the car home.

Jul 16: This is the day that Casey admits that she hasn't seen Caylee for 31 days.

Jul 16: Police are called, question the whole family, Casey sets them off on
a wild goose chase of lies, the car and the trash bags are seized.
No police reports reflect the presence of the odor of human decomp.

Where was the Body from June 16 - June 23?

This is where I see a huge gap in the prosecution case. Caylee reportedly died on June 16. This is, in fact, the day that Casey now claims that she died.

June 16: The day that Caylee died.

June 23, Casey still has control of the car. This is the day she and Tony go get the gas cans.

June 24: Casey still has control of the car. This is the day she returns the gas cans to George.

June 16 - June 24: No one notices or reports a strong smell coming from the car. This is a total of SEVEN days from the date of death.

The Bloat Stage (wherein the body swells, releases fluids and produces a strong odor) takes place on days 2-6 after death depending on conditions such as hot temps.

This was Florida in June. It HAD to be hot during that time and therefore, the decomposition process would have been accelerated.

Current temps in the Orlando area right now (same general time frame) are running 80's +.

I wonder if the Defense is going to attempt to account for this gap?

Computer Searches

If you read most any report regarding the computer searches such as "neck breaking", "household weapons" "internal bleeding" , you will see that other computer searches such as "self defense" and "hand to hand combat" were excluded as irrelevant.

What the news reports don't say is that the computer searches (according to computer forensics expert testimony) began with a search on "self defense". If you go to the wiki article for "self defense" (I did this myself) you will see near the bottom of the article a link for "hand to hand combat".

Conclusion: This evidence is "iffy". It's fully possible that the computer user began with a search on "self defense" and one link led to the other.

News reports say that other computer searches began with the word "chloraform", "chloroform" and "how to make chloroform".

What the news reports don't say is that these computer searches (again, according to computer forensics expert testimony) have the computer going back and forth between these chloroform searches and MySpace (where one of Casey's boyfriends has an image with the infamous "Win her over with chloroform" text).

What the news reports also fail to mention is that these individual searches lasted seconds to scant minutes.

Conclusion: It's possible that Casey was searching on how to make chloroform because she wanted to sedate her daughter Caylee. It's also possible that she saw the image with text on her boyfriends MySpace, got curious and began searching around for information on chloroform. In other words, I see the presence of two options.

Just a word on the

Trash Bags Found in the trunk of the Sunfire

If I understand the forensics experts on this, and I heard every word of their testimony, at no time did any of the experts confirm that the fluid stain found in the trunk was specifically related to *human* decomposition.

The trash contained containers from frozen chicken. This could account for the fluid stains.

Can putrescine (the decomp fluid) be present in the containers from frozen chicken?

Yes, I think so, if the chicken was uncooked.

Conclusion: I really don't know what to make of this evidence and am trying hard to look at all the evidence objectively without converging on either theory of how Caylee Anthony died. It's difficult!

The Prosecution rested it's case today and following that, Judge Perry denied a defense motion for acquittal.

The Defense begins it's presentation tomorrow.

The Defense asserts that Caylee Anthony died via accidental drowning in the family pool. That the accidental drowning was discovered by George and Casey, and George helped to cover up the accident. They will also attempt to somehow implicate Roy Kronk, the meter reader who discovered the body on Dec. 11, 2008.

The Defense will also forward the theory that Casey's behavior following the death of her daughter can be attributed to sexual abuse by her father, George beginning at age 8. This, they say, is the reason that Casey could disassociate from and lie about her daughter's death, acting as if it never happened.

Good luck with that Mr. Baez!

Prediction: I think that Mr. Baez could possibly succeed, but ONLY if Casey Anthony takes the stand in an effort to defend herself and specifically with regards to the accusation of sexual abuse. I have *no idea* how the Defense intends to prove or corroborate the sexual abuse allegation. They can bring in all the psyche experts they want to describe the effects of sexual abuse on children but I doubt it would be as powerful as the alleged victim herself telling her story. I've never followed a murder trial so closely from the disappearance report to the court room, so I don't know what strategies the Defense might employ or how successful these strategies might be.

That said, there IS room to pick apart the evidences submitted by the State of Florida and there IS room to build a case for accidental drowning beginning with Cindy Anthony's reports of the pool ladder being "up" just at the time Caylee would have drown in the pool.

Someone is going to have to tell this story...I wonder if it will be known and admitted liar, Casey Anthony?

Something tells me that this is going to get really down and dirty before it's all over...and of course, it will go to appeal so it won't be "all over" for a very long time.

Holy Moly!

In spite of his initial floundering/stuttering performance during the presentation of the Prosecution's case, Defense Attorney Jose Baez is actually doing a good job!

During a sidebar discussing DNA evidence examinations, the camera pans the observers. George Anthony is seen sitting next to, presumably his own attorney, he looks to the side at what looks to be something his attorney has written, after reading it, he cradles his forehead in his hand and is visibly red faced.

Hmmm!

During the Defense examination of DNA evidence, Prosecuting Attorney Ashton is told by Judge Perry to "calm down" and then "sit down". What precipitated this was Baez pursuing expert testimony regarding DNA levels on the shovel. At one point Ashton objects saying that this is irrelevant. Baez inquires, "If it's irrelevant, then why is the shovel in evidence?" :-)

Ashton obeys the direction to sit down. The prosecution is objecting right and left, Judge Perry has overruled nearly every objection.

Shoe is on the other foot here!

If I was a juror, the biggest question I would have to ask myself, is why would the mother or grandfather need to put duct tape over the face of this child if she had already drowned?

Thanks for providing some interesting observations and recap into what is happening.

Here's my answer. The mother or grandfather would need to put duct tape over the face of the child whom the Defense claims drown in order to stage it as a kidnap/murder.

This is what the Defense claimed from the opening statement. They are claiming that Caylee drown in the family pool, discovered by George and then immediately following, by Casey, and George (an ex-detective) covered it up.

The question would be "why"?

The only answer I have to that is, "To avoid the wrath of Cindy Anthony".
