Mormon history is what interest me the most. Besides the natural interest deriving from being raised LDS, I am also very interested to encounter those historical elements that were/are avoided by the Church and delving into the reasons why they were withheld.
Joseph Smith becomes a much more interesting subject when you look at him as involved in the creation of Mormonism rather than just simply the restorer of God's one true church. If you set aside (neither reject or accept) "God inspired him to do something" then looking for other motivations, inspirations, influences and anything else that might have led him to his actions is really an interesting search.

The adoption of polygamy in the Nauvoo era by the inner circle of staid Northeasterners.
I'm sure that many of you have already read about this. I've begun to realize what a neophyte I am when it comes to most of the significant topics in Mormon history.
