Pehaps I should shoot an email to the bishop?

Yes. All you have to do is email your bishop/stake president (or add a cc) and tell them you don't want any visits. After the 30 day cooling off period, you'll receive notification that your request for name-removal has been finalised.

In the decade I've been helping people get out of Mormonism, this is usually not the case. Mormons do NOT know nor do they respect boundaries. You have to constantly tell them no contact and in most cases you have to contact the COB to facilitate the resignation because some B or SP won't get off his ass and do the paperwork.

The whole "Thirty Days" is BS. If a person resigns they should receive a letter immediately. The Cult of Mormonism plays a ridiculous game of control. And while a person may legally be "out" once the COB receives their letter - until they get a letter stating resignation has been fully processed - they will be harassed by the Cult indefinitely.

I had a similar situation. I was in a Ward boundary unfamiliar to me, and was contacted by the Bishop from a Ward I never attended. I received the same letter from Church HQ.

The Bishop called me, and asked if I'd come in for an interview. I declined, and requested he process my resignation. There was some back and forth... Relatively amicable, and I thought that was that.

A couple of weeks go by, and I get a letter from that Bishop. He excoriated the ever lovin' Bejesus out of me, let me know about the temple covenants I was turning my back on, and that I'd lose my family forever. To this day I'm not sure if my request has been processed or not.

I figure I did my piece, so “F” it. :)

Post Script- I had my ex-wife's Bishop call me to ask me permission to let my ex-wife marry a Mormon. I explained to the Bishop I had resigned, but he still insisted I verbally state that I give permission to my ex-wife to marry the Mormon guy. I declined out of spite. She still married the guy in the temple, so I'm not sure why I had to give permission in the first place.

The mind games these guys play are silly. It should just be an easy process. You state, "I quit.", and they state, "Ok. You've been removed.". That's that.

Let's see what comes of the email I sent the bishop today before making calls to Salt Lake. I'm a patient person and am willing to wait 30 days. I feel like a new man. I'm finally free of the cult. I love my life and love living. The cult was such a horrific experience. All I ever wanted to do was die. Now I'm alive! . . . . . boys are nice. I get to be who I was born to be. It's not to late.

Bishop,

You received a letter from church headquarters and a followup email from me to terminate my membership records with the church. I want to know what you have done to meet your responsibility to satisfy my legal demands to have my records removed. I expect this to be done pronto. It has been over 30 days. Do I need to call Salt Lake and complain? Do I need to show up at your office wearing a sexy tank top and tight gay jeans on the sabbath? What would the youth think?

Take care of it now, please.
