Bill Hamblin wrote:3- Joseph Smith is a true prophet, meaning not that he thought he was a prophet, or that other thought he was a prophet, but that he actually saw God, received authentic revelation from God, and received divine authorization to restore the Church. (To me this implies, as a corollary, belief in the historicity of the Book of Mormon. Although some have argued that a fictional Book of Mormon could be scripture, the problem is that if Joseph himself wrote a fictional Book of Mormon, either in a delusional state or as a knowing fraud, or by plagiarizing some other book, it is logically impossible that he was an authentic prophet.)

Bill Hamblin, you make a damn good case against JSJr, using the Book of Mormon to back door him like that! Hats off to the Bull!

I don't see why not. Hamblin seems like an intellectually honest person to me.

Maybe someone should ask Hamblin to give us a ballpark figure on how many of the church's claimed 14 million members meet his four-part test for being Mormon.

Maybe Hamblin has been commissioned to draft the next generation of TR interview questions. Much more concrete and less slippery than the current ones.

Ok. I did. by the way, your comment made it through moderation.

It was at least a semi-serious question, though.

I would like Bill to say:
1. What is the purpose of creating his own set of criteria?
2. What does he intend it to be used for?
3. If he doesn't think that the membership department should use his criteria, does that mean that he disagrees with them about who should be allowed to be a member?

Or is this all about competing with his friends to see who can create the "best" requirements to be a true Mormon - a pissing match. (am I allowed to say that in Terrestrial?)

by the way, I noted his implied exclusive use of "Mormon" to mean "LDS Mormon".

ETA: I guess I must be snarkier than Darth J - my comment was deleted (;=(, but his was allowed to stand, and he even got a reply from Dr H.

ETA: Someone asked Equality's question, and that comment is also still there and received a reply! I'm feeling ill done to.
