I'm not clear anymore on where the Promised Land is now. It used to clear that it was the USA. The text obviously implies that.
But now, since all the smart people support the LGT, it must either be that small area of Central America, or else it's both entire American continents.

That might explain why Moroni was never promoted past the rank of Captain. Hot heads with violent tempers may do well on the battle field, but to achieve the rank of General, you can't threaten violence against those who disagree with you. You need to temper your emotions and command respect, not fear, from your peers and underlings.
