madeleine wrote:Wherein the soul sings of the happy chance which it had in passing through the dark night of faith, in detachment and purgation of itself, to union with the Beloved.

1. On a dark night, Kindled in love with yearnings — oh, happy chance! —
I went forth without being observed, My house being now at rest.

2. In darkness and secure, By the secret ladder, disguised — oh, happy chance! —
In darkness and in concealment, My house being now at rest.

3. In the happy night, In secret, when none saw me,
Nor I beheld aught, Without light or guide, save that which burned in my heart.

4. This light guided me More surely than the light of noonday,
To the place where he (well I knew who!) was awaiting me — A place where none appeared.

5. Oh, night that guided me, Oh, night more lovely than the dawn,
Oh, night that joined Beloved with lover, Lover transformed in the Beloved!

6. Upon my flowery breast, Kept wholly for himself alone,
There he stayed sleeping, and I caressed him, And the fanning of the cedars made a breeze.

7. The breeze blew from the turret As I parted his locks;
With his gentle hand he wounded my neck And caused all my senses to be suspended.

8. I remained, lost in oblivion; My face I reclined on the Beloved.
All ceased and I abandoned myself, Leaving my cares forgotten among the lilies.

--"Ascent of Mount Carmel", by St. John of the Cross

Which echoes the "Song of Songs".

This is also nice.

This is a spiritual experience so he doesn't look like anything. He reflects and projects.

But the thread is titled 'sexually attracted to Jesus' not 'spiritually attracted to Jesus'.

I was assuming a person could be sexually attracted to a mental image that is a reflection of ideals and ideas, projected by objects in the environment.

I think that's more of an empathetic or kindred spirit type of attraction rather than something sexual. JMHO.

Drifting,

You do have a good point about us not knowing what Jesus really looked like. However, trying to figure out what he really looked like is a futile exercise. It would be like trying to figure out how he reacts when the souls of believers meet him in heaven. "He reacts wonderfully, of course!"

Thinking, feeling, and enjoying what he might look like to you, on the other hand, is a completely different thing.

Some people call this useless fantasy. Maybe others consider it childish. I call it human nature.

Sexual attraction as opposed to sexual relationship.

No, it is not possible to have a sexual relationship with Jesus. But is it possible to have a sexual attraction? Sure! Sexual attraction is being attracted on the basis of sexual desire. Sexual desire is a want for sexual intimacy. Notice the word "desire."

The lord only asks us to be willing, right? ;)

I get what you mean.
Fantasising about what that girl/boy on the phone might look like is a fairly common occurrence. It is also common that the reality fails to measure up to the mental image when you meet in person.

Ah, I see what you are getting at now. It is bad to be attracted to him because you will eventually meet the real him, which is most likely different than the guy you imagined him to be. OK.

Well, I don't know that he'll be different to what you expect but consider this.
Jesus clearly has the power to prevent child abuse, yet He doesn't.
I'm not sure I can be attracted to that kind of guy no matter what His justification for standing aside on stuff like that.
