This saying is in reference to John 21, when Simon Peter went fishing all night but didn't catch a single fish. In the morning, Jesus calls to him and asks if Simon caught any fish and when Simon answered no, Jesus told him to cast the net into the sea on the right side of his boat. The net was then filled with fish.

Pretty much a story that says if you follow what Jesus says, you will get good results. I can buy into this, Jesus didn't say much that is terribly off-putting and most of the consequences of following what he says are pleasant human relationships and expectations of mythical outcomes, like miracles, heaven, etc... Of course, Holland wants to conflate 'doing what Jesus said' with 'doing what the Church says'. Those are two different things.

You are better off rejecting the whole steaming pile instead of picking through for nuggets of truth. Wash yourself clean and start over fresh. Anything that is true in Mormonism can be found outside Mormonism too.

I think you're right about that.

by the way, before I clicked on this thread I figured it would be about missionary work, lol, the GAs preparing the new wave of 18-year-old recruiters for a field that's been over farmed. I'm a bit gullible I guess, because in retrospect, I don't think we'll ever see a GA admit that the missions aren't producing.

I liked the part where he pretended to be Jesus berating Peter for not loving him enough. We are supposed to believe that Jesus was an asshole, like Holland.

That makes Jesus sound like a whiny bitch.

For the leaders, not the NoMs. They are probably at more peace than they ever have been.

I know he asked us to indulge him, but I was taken back a bit by how liberally he was willing to put words into Christ's mouth.

It had to make some of the TBMs watching uncomfortable. But I suppose if they can pretend to speak for God it's not that big of a jump to do a Jesus impersonation.

What's up with Holland lately? He sounds pretty pissed off in most of the recent talks he has given these last 2 years.
Tapirs... Yeah... That's the ticket!
