Mostly a dupe...

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

This is the best explanation that I found out on why Mitt Romney lost the Presidential election.

A Conservative's Take: Top 10 Reasons Why Romney Lost:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-zieg ... 74122.html

Romney got a "stand down" order before the last debate.

The media blacked out Benghazi.

Hurricane Sandy.

A lack of response to attacks in Ohio.

Too much faith in a conservative wave.

Inability to reach undecideds.

Impotence of the conservative media.

Pennsylvania Electoral College plan got killed in wake of Sandusky scandal.

The War on Women.

The false caricature of Mitt Romney.

I don't totally agree with every single one of these reasons, but I do agree on most of them.

Which ones do you disagree with?

I believe that the only one I really disagree with is "A lack of response to attacks in Ohio" there. I really don't think that Romney could have done more than he did to try to win Ohio.

Because the takers outnumbered the taxed.

But it is inconceivable that the public would, on a fully informed and rational basis, choose a political ideology that guarantees American economic decline and foreign policy retreat.

why? people avoid flu shots knowing that if everyone does the same, then others will get sick and epidemics can happen. People vote for their own interest, not in the interest of the whole, even if they understand the outcome. The far right is no different (though they don't understand much, I'll assume they do for arguments sake). They vote for policies that ensure continuing of the status quo and promoting the god-fearin' xtian way of life. It's a matter or rhetoric only, not demonstration, to equate their own position to one of "freedom" and the market, and the optimal result for the whole. Why does a right-winger with seven kids deny global warming and shrug off any concern over the enviornment? Because it's better for him or her in the present to live like there's no tomorrow. S/he will not suffer the pain of the great grandchildren any more than the pain of an elderly neighbor dying from a flu contracted from him or her.

This guy sounds like so many Republicans I know, including close friends and family members. It is one of the things that turned me off from the Right Wing years ago (I felt myself beginning to think like this and it scared the crap out of me). When you try to reason with them calmly they shout over you in an emotional fit:

Notice that the people ranting this way never believe they have the burden of proof. Instead, you're supposed to prove them wrong when they say X amount of people vote Obama because they want government handouts. Never once do they try to back up this claim with data.

$300 million in attack ads portraying him as a heartless plutocrat tend to lessen a candidate's electoral appeal.

More likely it is the $900 million in attack ads against Obama that were mostly disproved by fact-checkers. America is building a low threshold for lying, and this pleases me greatly. Romney was his own worst enemy here because the American people saw him for who he really is. Romney is the narcissistic asshole who thinks he can get whatever he wants because of his position of power in the business world. He felt no need to actually convince rational people on an intellectual level. At every turn he insulted the American people, refusing to explain the details of his various "plans", assuming we were too stupid or lazy to care that the math didn't add up. And he underestimated America's interest in the ACA and the fact that Romney lied before millions of listeners when he assured us all that "my plan covers preexisting conditions." He knew this was horse crap but thought we wouldn't care enough about it to hold him accountable.

But the straw that broke the camel's back was probably his 47% speech behind closed doors. That proved beyond all doubt what kind of moron we were dealing with, despite the delusion fest by the Right Wingers constantly making excuses for him.

Many "takers" (white people on SSI/Medicare/Medicaid/welfare/etc) voted for Romney...you got that right?

And... 53% > 47%.

Perhaps enough in the 53% have found ways out of paying taxes that the 47% of takers didn't anger them as much as it otherwise would have. Voting to be generous with other peoples money probaby provided them some moral catharsis. I'm not saying my simple truth was the only reason, but rather the single biggest reason by far.
