I merely noted the attention given...i have often considered that the media's biggest flaw is being a "for-profit" enterprise...and yes, sex sells....style sells...and it sells newspapers and presidential candidates. The fundamental critique is that the bulk of Obama voters were motivated by style rather than substance...this is echoed by the popularity of the OP mentioned items.

To the contrary, judging by the way the right has seized on this event in Libya, it's a good thing a republican was president in 2001. I don't believe the country would have rallied around Gore. He would have been blamed for it, and crucified on Fox as a weak leader who allowed the terrorists entry and easy access to our planes, especially since it was their second attempt on the WTC. Who knows, possibly even impeached over it.
