ever heard of the notion that FOX simply likes to make money?

They also like to speak with forked tongue and Ann Coulter smells strong like buffalo.

The idea of saying or doing anything to acheive their goals seems spot on.

Then give us a link showing Rachel Maddow giving a story from two opposite viewpoints in order to pander to an audience.

Exactly!

You see, they can't do it. There is a huge distinction between legitimate News outlets and FOX News, which was the point. Folks like subgenius, when faced with incontrovertible evidence that their Right Wing media is a joke, suddenly they have to rationalize how it is all OK, because ,well, "everyone else does it too."

Well, no, they don't.

FOX News is heads and tails above the rest when it comes to bias and their intent to shape public opinion. They aren't really interested in the News, they are only interested in manufacturing controversies that get others to hate everyone else that disagrees with their political philosophy.

MSNBC has an agenda but they wear their bias on their sleeve and don't claim to be "fair and balanced." They also hire educated folks to host their programs, not disc jockeys who are good at revving up emotions among the ignorant.

Back in the bad old days, the networks used to care about their news divisions. Networks tried to shelter their news divisions from the pressures of the commercial world. Getting the story right was an obligation owed to the public for the privilege of broadcasting over public airwaves.

Now news divisions are 'profit centers' no different from any other 'entertainment' division.

It's much easier to understand if you stop thinking of 'news' as being tethered to journalistic standards, but rather a function of tailoring messages to maximize viewership. There is no obligation to provide news to the public. There is an obligation to provide a product for money. Call it 'news', call it 'opinion', call it entertainment, call it Ishmael, but just make sure it contributes to the bottom line.
