• 3 percent on an "anti-bisexual" bias.
• 1.9 percent on an "anti-heterosexual" bias.

The title of your original post is "Nobody Cares..." - but clearly people do care.

The (2012) FBI reportd 103 hate crime incidents motivated by an anti-Christian bias, and more than ten times that, 1111, motivated by an anti-LGBT bias.

2012 FBI religious hate crime statistics show 62.4 percent were victims of anti-Jewish bias, but only 9.1 percent were anti-Christian. Considering Jews are 2.2% of the U.S. population, I would say "War on Jews" would be the predominate theme of anti-religious crime in the U.S.

If Michael Sam were Jewish, he would have the hate crime trifecta.

I'm not sure where you're getting 'righteous by association'. No association is needed. I'm not the one who made the comparison to Rosa Parks. You said that gays "...do not suffer any more or less than everyone else." I'm merely pointed out that statistically, that's inaccurate.

reported FBI statistics are not an accurate description of reality...the "inaccuracy" is only as much as it is applied to your narrow reference.
"Suffer" being the key word - and in as much as it is applied to society at large...my statement is only inaccurate in as much as it overstates the "suffering" the LGBT actually experience.

I'm having a hard time understanding your argument. I don't think if you're against hate crimes against gays, you automatically dismiss hate crimes against other groups, or think they are not worthy of attention.

President Obama this week commissioned a task force about sexual assaults on campus. I wouldn't make the argument that he's 'catering' to women, or thinks they're 'special', or they are morally superior to men.

People form groups to raise political awareness of the problems they face: 'Take back the Night' for women, or the NRA for gun owners, or Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. The Mormon Church exercises tremendous influence in Utah's state government.

I'm not aware of any lobbying group for gay NFL players. The number of gay people, in and of themselves, don't really constitute the kinds of numbers to swing elections. But they do have allies, both on the left, increasingly in the center and a few on the (libertarian) right.

Even in a red state like Wyoming the ripples of changes attitudes can be felt.

Some people see gay rights as a logical evolution of 'all men are created equal'. Others see it as part of a tide of immorality, a sign that our nation is going to hell in a handbasket.

After the civil war, Edmund Ruffin, the man who fired the first shot at Fort Sumpter, wrote:

Some people think the evolution of human thought ended with Edmund Burke, Adam Smith and Thomas Jefferson, that all we have to do is do exactly what what they did, buy the next iPhone and wait for the rapture.

To paraphrase Robert Frost, I think humanity has miles to go before we sleep. We have a lot more evolving to do.
