To be fair, Mormons are not the only ones who pin the blame for all apostasy and doubt on a "desire to sin." Even modern day flat earthers pin blame for rejection of the flat earth hypothesis on an inherent desire of "ball earthers" to sin and deny the existence of God.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
