The Church declares that church discipline is confidential. However, they also publicly declared that Hamula wasn't exed for apostasy or disillusionment. I think that violated confidences. There are only so many excommunicable offenses.
Had Hamula been exed for apostasy, would the Church announce "Brother Hamula was not exed for adultery".
The last thing the Church wants is a GA to leave for apostasy.

I will add to my suspicion that unless criminal charges of some sort end up being filed against Mr. Hamula, the possible grounds for excommunication will narrow somewhat.
Of course, he could have had an affair or something, which though not criminal would still be grounds for excommunication.
But I don't hear the church rushing forward to confirm that he was not disciplined for adultery, or for a hundred other things it could have been.
It seems the church really wants to make it clear that one of their top leaders is not being excommunicated for apostasy.
I wonder why that is . . .

Great minds, I see!
And if he was in fact excommunicated for apostasy, I expect Brother Hamula may be receiving substantially more than $10,000 per month.

At least we finally have an excommunication the Q15 doesn't have to deny any involvement in.

Hamula’s removal is surprising because he was well-regarded and was even considered by some outside Mormon scholars as a possible candidate to join the high-level Quorum of the Twelve Apostles when the church was filling three vacancies in 2015, said Matthew Bowman, a Mormon scholar and history professor at Henderson State University.
Hamula was not chosen, but he was still considered an up-and-comer destined for more important assignments, Bowman said. In recent years, Hamula served in important roles as assistant executive director of church history and executive director of a department that reviews all documents published by the church.

Is being excommunicated for disillusionment even a thing?

Didn't someone claim to be talking to a 70 who no longer believed? Getting inside information about the 12, million dollar bonus, etc.
Grant Palmer or Tom Phillips or someone else? Could it be this guy?

I believe it was Grant Palmer.
