I have MGthetroll on ignore.

Me too. His postings are just drivel with nothing substantial. It's like blah, blah, blah.

I just don't get how some of you people let him get under your skin.

I don't need to put him on ignore because I have no problem ignoring him. But then again, I rarely participate in Terrestrial threads any more, spending the majority of my time in Paradise.

I don't have a problem putting myself in the other guys shoes though. This was going on for 3 years. Folks didn't want to bother mods so they "fought it out" in the threads. Then MG and others started reporting each other to mods. '

And what they got was a Jubilee! for MG.

Now MG is supposed to be abiding by rules set forth by Shades. And he's still carrying around that taunting sig line with a link to one of his troll threads.

Apparently he's still trolling Terrestrial or is perceived to be trolling. I haven't examined the threads to any extent. It doesn't really affect me, but I can't blame people if they're irritated by his presence or whatever he's doing currently.

Is it asking too much for this place to have a little peace for longer than a month?

I figure that everyone’s a grownup here and is perfectly capable of deciding whether to post here or not. Personally, I don’t cede that decision to anyone else. Nobody can chase me out of a forum that I want to be in.

As I recall, Shades ruling was that a single troll post would result in MG being queued. I personally don’t think that what MG posted was trolling, but if anyone thinks it was, they should report it. As I understand the rules here, the person who starts a thread has no right to dictate who can and cannot participate. If Mak doesn’t want to participate here under those rules, he’s free to go. I’ll miss him. I wish he would stay.

As for signature lines, using them for trolling has been a tradition here since before I joined.

I get that the first paragraph was an irrelevant reminder of something everyone already knows, but the second paragraph was a clarification that it's a tough thing for believers to accept too, not just non-believers (as stated in the post to which he was responding).

I think the irrelevant reminder is what annoyed Maksutov and resurrected mentalgymnast's troll image, but I don't see how or where he broke any rules or purposefully antagonized.

Well do you blame him for being on edge considering what's taken place?

He probably saw that remark and went on guard wondering what MG might do next and possibly ruin the topic. I can't say as I blame him, Shades.

I don't see a problem with MG's post. He has a right to say and express himself how he likes. His statement is tricky and doesn't really make sense to me but he has every right to participate in his own tricky little way. Others should just ignore him. Really though, I hardly get what MG says because everything he says seems couched in riddles.

To the extent “blame” is an issue, then Mak should get the blame. He quit because Shades wouldn’t make a special rule that MG can’t post in threads Mak starts. That’s his decision, not anyone else’s. Neither MG nor Shades should be blamed for what Mak might imagine MG might post.

Dr. Shades, I think you are missing Maksutov's point. It was not the contents of that single post that Maks was referring to, and I believe it is inaccurate to point to that single post as an explanation for Maksutov's ultimate decision. I could reiterate for Shulem a variety of posts that Maksutov and a multitude of others have found objectionable, but the last time I did that, you publicly "respectfully request[ed] that [ I ] give him a "free pass" on his past sins for the next few days."

I suspect that you had (correctly) determined that getting me (and others) to stop objecting to his trolling was a task you could accomplish, whereas getting him to stop trolling, plus getting him to stop reporting everyone who objected to his trolling, was most decidedly NOT.

I hope you noticed that virtually everyone, more or less, respected your request for quite a few days for a "Mentalgymnast Jubilee", while Mentalgymnast himself lasted all of 13 hours before posting this obnoxious assessment of our board where he had been granted a "free pass" :

Your attempt at having a 'mixed' community with little moderation is commendable. Even if it somewhat, at least in my opinion/mind, somewhat of a failed experiment in some respects.... I believe that as time goes on...if it hasn't already arrived...this place will become even more of an echo chamber, than it already is...

He's a troll, Dr. Shades. He trolls here and only here because this is the only place he is still allowed to troll, and now he's driven off multiple valued members of our community, because he can. He's in hibernation now, as I suspect even he is a little dismayed at the storm he created, but it will not last. Whatever drove him to troll in the past will drive him to do it again. I am not asking for further discussion; there is no point in re-hashing, over and over and over, how he gets "just one more chance."

I just wanted to express my deep, deep regret that my friends are leaving our community.
