I'm to reusable grocery bags as a habit in my life, instead of an afterthought. And laying off plastic water bottles except for our food storage that we keep because blizzard + electrical outage= no water around here. I've abandoned plastic "silverware" except for the few bits I have left that I reuse for art.

But I love drinking water from plastic bottles. And I put most of the water plastic bottles in the recycle bin can.

If that were true then it is a problem that will solve itself.

I guess it depends on your definition of "soon". If it's next year, fine. If it's 50 years, the damage will be well beyond repair.

My point is that if we are going to have to go without fossil fuels eventually, why not do it now and avoid additional damage?
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Yes soon is a vague word, but the problem is fossil fuels can last us much longer then 50 years causing quite a bit of climate warming unless we find someway to control CO2 release from fossil fuels or removal of atmospheric CO2. Coal can last us for many centuries.

At what cost?

If we do continue to use coal, we won't be able to use it for many centuries because we won't be here to use it.

I'm not saying we should, but that we have quite a bit more then people realize, meaning that in order to protect the climate and humanities well-being we will have to make a conscious decision to stop using energy sources that will continue to make the climate hotter, or find ways to remove things like CO2 and methane from the atmosphere.

My first reply to Xeno's first reply on this thread has disappeared. I didn't request a delete. Who made off with my post? Someone monkeying around with a mod panel who doesn't know what they're doing? Mods up in the night randomly snatching up people's posts? MUI?

What gives??? Confess!!!

Dunno, Jersey Girl. Mod log does not show any deleted posts in that thread.

ETA: I’m just working off of memory from reading the thread, but aren’t there several posts missing? I’m pretty sure there were several more posts before Shades asked about the forks.

I'm starting to think that if they weren't deleted/moved via mod work that somehow Jersey Girl's subsequent responses pasted over the missing posts or merged into one? You can see that she quotes a post that doesn't exist anywhere else on the thread in what shows as the 3rd post:

The fact that it seems to be several posts missing makes me skeptical of just simple user error though.

Yeah, I don’t know of any way that Jersey Girl could have made a post disappear. The only mod activity was the boss editing a couple of posts, but neither of them were Jersey Girl’s. If there is some kind of hide function, I’m not seeing it. There is a topic resynch function, but I don’t know exactly what it does so I ain’t touching it. My WAG is some kind of data corruption, but restoring from a backup is above my pay grade.

I’ll leave the boss a note and let the tech wizards take a look.
