I found this interesting, Gunnar:
Trump Voter: "Every day he breaks my heart as an American in a new way"
I have a friend who also fits into this camp. They voted for Trump because Hillary is the devil, Trump was an outsider and had a reputation for being a successful businessman (clearly undeserved, but it was there). I mean, if I suspend everything I knew about Trump at the time and just bought into the copy written about him by people purported to admire him, I can almost imagine being excited to vote for him. He wasn't a career politician. He wasn't an insider. He wasn't beholden to American moneyed interests (although now we find out that would have been preferable to his Russian financiers). And he wasn't Clinton. I can almost imagine it, if I, like I said, squinted enough to ignore everything else I knew about him.
But here's where I give these people credit. At least, they watched his performance as President, and rather than acting like blind, idiot fanboys, they said,
Holy sh-it, this guy's a total fuc-kup.
So yeah, I'm careful to draw a pretty massive distinction between a current Trump supporter and someone who voted for Trump in 2016. Some of them came to their senses.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
