Happy Birthday, Joseph Smith! December 23, 1805
--Quoted in Larry C. Porter, A Study of the Origins of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the States of New York and Pennsylvania, 1816-1831. A Dissertation . . . (Brigham Young University, 1971), 19 n.23 (with background and statement documentation, pp. 19-20).I, John D. Spring, M.D., have told a family story concerning Dr. Joseph Denison of South Royalton, Vermont, who delivered Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saints. The story was told my mother by her aunt, Mrs. Louis Elder, who had cleared out the house of Dr. Denison after the death of him and his family. The report was bound in his account books of delivering a son for old Joe Smith. Under a later date he had put a note on the same entry saying "If I had known how he was going to turn out I'd have smothered the little cuss."

Re: Merry Smithmas!
I'm pleased to see that the December 2021 issue of the Friend magazine celebrates the sacred birthday of Joseph Smith. Millions shall know Brother Joseph's birthday again.

Didn't Smith say he had done more for the salvation of men than Christ?Kishkumen wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 11:45 amYes, folks, it's that most wonderful time of the year! I am a big proponent of Smithmas. I don't understand the resistance. With all of Joseph Smith's amazing feats, why not celebrate his memory appropriately?

I’m guessing that in some wards throughout the CofJCofLDS Joseph’s birthday may be mentioned in passing. And yes, periodically this hymn is sung:Kishkumen wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 11:45 amYes, folks, it's that most wonderful time of the year! Kishkumen, it is appropriate to remember Joseph’s birth. More appropriately, however, it is astronomically more important to remember the birth of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
You failed to to that, inadvertently perhaps?
The first verse of Praise to the Man succinctly places Joseph’s importance within the context of restoration of Christ’s church. Joseph WAS a key player, but to do as you and others have done on this thread to essentially elevate him to the stature of the Savior of the world is extremely inappropriate.
Granted, to some if not all of the folks here, your attempt and those of others at humor…at the expense of the Prophet of the Restoration…will be appreciated and lauded.
I’m sure you knew where your post would lead.
