Why doesn’t Interpreter?

I went to see what you're talking about. There's a link to "John's Favorite Interviews" click on that and its all him. I was hoping to get his favorite guests. Ah well. I guess we can consider "Top Episodes" or "Most Important Interviews" as his favorite. Those two seem to be the same list with a different named link.

It would be nice to show up to Interpreter and see a list of the top utilized or top commented, and their favorites list.

It says “top John Dehlin episodes” so I think it’s a list of the top episodes centered around him on purpose. But that does look a bit vain if not.

This is an excellent point. And it can be answered two ways, at least. On the one hand, I doubt there is a single article from Interpreter that would survive editorial / peer review at the *current* (I.e., post-2012) MI, but the Mopologists would dismissively chalk that up to tendentious liberalism on the part of the “new” MI. (Or, in their less guarded moments, they would blame it on “apostates” who are “embedded” at the MI.)

But the more interesting point / question, in my opinion, is whether the typical Interpreter output would have been published by *classic-FARMS.* Again, I think the answer is “No.” The Mopologists were affected by the “panopticon” of BYU, and in a weird sense , it caused them to “up their game.” At minimum, there were a whole lot less typos in the old FARMS articles. And I doubt that, under the old regime, they would have been scrambling for embarrassing content like “Interpreting Interpreter.” Would “Reviewing the FARMS Review” ever have seemed like a good idea? The Mopologists of classic-FARMS were bolder and less shy in the face of controversy, but the “purge” of 2012 permanently weakened DCP, and so now all we get is the weak urine stream that is Interpreter.

I could easily name a Top 5 of the FARMS Review, but doing so for Interpreter feels impossible. And I want to emphasize again that I seriously doubt that DCP reads the material that Interpreter publishes. I bet he hasn’t even read 10% of the blog’s output.

I'm sure this had nothing whatsoever to do with Dr. Scratch's post , but as if on cue, DCP just posted a reminder that he does in fact read:

I first read the Meditations of the Stoic Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 121-180) back when I was in high school. (I belonged to some sort of book club through which I bought fairly inexpensive hardback editions of classic works; I still own the copy that I bought and read when I was about fifteen or sixteen.)
