I think "racism" is an easy accusation and I don't see how it can be the chief driver of the problem when the races getting the most attention seemed to have been as excited about sending themselves out the door as everyone else was.
I see your point. Yes, racism is an easy accusation. It does not mean it does not exist, however, or that there is not a strong correlation between anti-immigrant views and racism. Are there non-white immigrants who also push to keep "illegals" out of the country? Sure. But this does not prove such people are the driving force behind opposition to illegal immigration. I think it just proves that politics make strange bedfellows. That principle explains how the least Christian of all political parties by policy could become the most popular party among American Christians.

Just because they weren't born American doesn't mean they can't be just as damned retarded as racists in America.

It's racism Gad. These people aren't complicated. It's difficult to be complex when you're dumb as a post. Just accept it.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense. It's also the favored cover for hypocrites.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

An APP that allows you to warn others that ICE is near.

Has anyone downloaded it yet?

Any opinions about the ICEBlock app?
With an American citizen being held in ICE detention for 3.5 years under a Republican administration, and then a Republican appointed judge ruling that he wasn't entitled to any form of compensation for being kidnapped and falsely imprisoned for over a third of a decade by ICE, I'm going to avoid anything that rocks the boat too much, or that can tie me to trying to subvert the current administration's crusade of kidnapping and trafficking humans. I'm a single dad. My family and I have too much to lose.

Cowardice on my part, but I just can't risk being a squeaky wheel that gets greased.

I don't blame you. All I do is note that this is exactly what Trump & co. are aiming for. They want to terrify everyone into submission because that way they can continue to rule lawlessly without opposition. I'm with you: there is a limit to what I will do because I do worry about the ramifications for members of my own family. I may not be as vulnerable as you are in this regard, but I am not invulnerable or anywhere close.

Well, people experiencing serious economic pressure may slip into blaming people coming into the country. That may not be a good reason but little hope is being offered politically and people can lash out hoping for relief.

This can be a strong driver which can link to racist feeling but does not have to.

Trump addresses this emotionally while going on about lgbtq rights and abortion does not. So Trump won. A person might note neither side offered solid plans for hope.

People who are lucky can take for granted how fortunate they are, and any slip in their good fortune can seem like an injustice. Up until now we have been incredibly fortunate. None of us who were born with American citizenship ever did anything to deserve that piece of good fortune. Those born in the developed democratic nations around the world were similarly fortunate in the historical scheme of things. Everyone wants to think they somehow merited their good fortune, but, you scratch a little below the surface, and we all owe debts that cannot be paid, ever.

It is because people do not understand their good fortune, screw it up for themselves, resent others for having a little more, etc., that we find ourselves in this mess. Everyone who could easily take the time to cast a ballot in the election really has no excuse for effing things up for everyone else and themselves by voting for the trainwreck of Trump.

Anyone who did so for religious reasons is doubly mysterious to me. I can't imagine being so arrogant as to think that I have a special line on ultimate reality that puts me in a position to tell other people whether they can get an abortion or the like, courtesy of Donald J. Trump, the sexual deviant who paid for abortions and probably still would. Freedom of religion and freedom from religion. I don't want to live by your religion's rules and you don't want to live by mine. Imagine if the Catholic Church controlled the USA. Would Protestants be happy about that? Imagine if Scientologists did. Now we have heretical Protestants and extremists of other stripes calling the shots, making things really uncomfortable for the rest of us normies. It sucks.

We went through this before when I asked you whether or not we should just have open borders. You basically said no, and pasted you plan for a path to citizenship via the established immigration laws. Ironically all Trump is doing is enforcing what you pasted and recommended.

My point is I think in fact you want open borders.....correct me if I am wrong.

I cannot help but think this is a trick question, or just too vague. All sorts of people cross the border. Tourists, truck drivers, students, temporary visa holders, people with immigration documents, and people holding refugee documents. There have been a variety of legitimate green cards.

There is a variety of approaches which can be taken, not all equal, but open borders? What in the world is that?

When I say open borders, it means anyone from any country can come here and expect any and all rights and benefits we afford. It would mean to eliminate all immigration laws and no need to enforce them.

We either have border laws and enforce them, or we don't, is the context.

Do you believe we should have border laws, and if so, should the be enforced?

We have not had open borders like that in over a hundred years. Why would you imagine I want such a thing? I do not.
