If so, what is the mission of DM, and how well is DM meeting this mission goal? Sometimes I think the mission of any organization may have to realign based on changing times. I may be mistaken, but it originally seemed to me that taking on the mopologists head to head was at the forefront back in the day. Times have changed.
I think what you’re asking is something someone who is interested in creating collaborative culture within the framework of what some new industry thinkers term as “moral imagination.” If an owner or even senior executive who runs the show possessed that moral imagination, it would be grounded in values, ethical foresight (where is this endeavor headed with ethical intent), and what kind of creative possibilities could the work become? This “moral imagination” is a “compass” that someone like Dr. Shades might have, that would help him develop a core mission statement, and guide him with regard to to site and how its ran.

With the help of ChatGPT I just created the MS:

DiscussMormonism.com exists to foster thoughtful, inclusive, and respectful dialogue about Mormonism and related topics. Our community welcomes Internet Mormons, Chapel Mormons, critics, apologists, and never‑Mormon voices alike, providing moderated spaces for scholarly discussion, personal inquiry, and civil debate. We strive to create an environment where diverse perspectives on theology, history, culture, and lived experience can be shared openly, while maintaining courtesy, intellectual curiosity, and mutual respect. Most importantly, have fun!

I added that last bit with Dr. Shades’ input.

What do you think of it? Should it be modified somehow?

I think I should add that a mission statement is the promise to internal and external stakeholders. In this case the internal stakeholders might be active participants, and external stakeholders are people trying to figure out if it’s worth their time to participate on the forum. In other words, the mission statement is a promise by leaders to stakeholders, of what their business is about.

Whether or not Dr. Shades is ready for that kind of flag in the ground statement is up to him, and a few others who ensure this board exists and operates functionally.

Cap’n’s orders acknowledged: Aye, this is an entertainment vessel, sails trimmed for fair winds and following seas. No mutiny observed, but one scurvy dog was noted squinting at a compass and muttering about “stakeholders.” The crew will keep him well clear of the armory. 🏴‍☠️

Seriously though I think this is a good voluntary subset that describes how the board is free to be used.

Yes. It should be slightly modified to read:

"This message board exists to raise awareness of, and promote appreciation for, Perfume, the official Japanese electro-pop group of DiscussMormonism.com. In between threads in which we track their goings-on and express our fandom, we occasionally post threads regarding Utah's wealthiest sect of Brighamite Mormonism, so you are welcome to join in those as well if you'd like."
.
"When the Mormon God requires a PR crisis to act moral, we've clearly outgrown him."

I used ChatGPT, with some guidance, to produce this:

“DiscussMormonism.com hosts thoughtful, inclusive, and well moderated discussion of Mormonism, welcoming believers, former members, critics, and never Mormons for informed, civil exchange on theology, history, culture, and lived experience, with an officially unofficial side mission of celebrating Perfume, our adopted Japanese electro pop group. The board aims to cultivate a curious, respectful community that values scholarship, humor, and honest disagreement while remaining accessible to new voices.”

Will OP please chime in?
