I made this first post knowing nothing beyond the trailer hoping to open a bit of discussion. I since read a bit about the movie. I gather it makes a point of brutal conditions in London poverty, her spouse has sadomasochistic inclinations and Ann was brutally persecuted. Her life has a protest dimension. Even if I think that the idea of celibacy being the only path to heaven is absurd I can see a dramatic sense to her or their aspiration.huckelberry wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 4:57 pmDrumdude, why or how would one expect her movement to catch on? It sounds unpleasant and pointless.
I think that dramatic tension could make material for a strong movie. I doubt that Mormon history presents that opportunity. That history is less dull than current activity but there is a similarity. I do not envy the task of attempting a good Mormon movie.
Human sexuality is a tricky moral mix. There is a biological background of necessity and power assertion and a partially worked out dimension of love, care, and creation.
