  • Builders of Faith (young women turning 12-13)
  • Messengers of Hope (young women turning 14-15)
  • Gatherers of Light (young women turning 16 or older)

 kind of long names, will they get nicknames of Builders, Messengers, and Gatherers.
What's the attraction of unnecessary prepositional phrases? Why not: Faith Builders, Hope Messengers and Light Gatherers? My inner editor does not approve.
I think I have your answer from reddit. Rushclock
The old names were hard to translate in other languages. These names translate to stupid in all languages.

As I look at the list again, I'm sure that I'm not the only person struck by the triad: Faith, Hope, and not-Charity.

I am reminded of the Young Women General Presidency’s November 2020 comments on the decision to “retire” the Laurel, Mia Maid, and Beehive class names:
Referring to all young women under one unifying name [Young Women] will increase unity and affirm divine identity. It was not easy to retire the names of Laurel, Mia Maid and Beehive. This change came with clear direction after a long struggle. Our name needs to reflect our true identity in every language. As a Young Women general presidency, we sought the best thinking of many people and pondered and prayed over new class names for a long time.

As we sought the Lord’s guidance, clear, simple direction came to our hearts and minds. We were inspired to simplify and help our dear sisters focus on the power of belonging. The name of “Young Women” has a unifying effect on each class and clarifies their identity. These sweet sisters are not Laurels, Mia Maids and Beehives. They are Young Women and daughters of God. A number will usually not need to be added to the end of a class name. Our youth usually don’t say they are members of the Sunday School class for 14 to 15 year olds, they just use the term “Sunday School.” In the same way, we hope our young women and their adult leaders can refer to Young Women classes without always feeling a need to attach a number.

This change has been difficult for some, but we have great hope that identity will be found not in class names but rather in the words of the Young Women theme. They are “beloved daughters,” “disciples of Jesus Christ” and “witnesses of God.”
Line upon line. Precept upon precept.

I agree that church members will immediately refer to the classes as Builders, Messengers, and Gatherers.
To clarify, and to be clear…in 2020 the Church was inspired to disband the 3 separately identified age groups for 12-17 year old girls, and unify them into one collective titled “Young Women”, in order to unify them and strengthen their discipleship. In 2026 the Church has been inspired to disband the one collective of 12-17 year old girls titled “Young Women”, and place them into 3 separately identified age groups, in order to unify them and strengthen their discipleship.

Have I got that right?
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

The first scripture seems to actually talk about building, but the others feel a bit of a stretch to the name. I guess they do translate well. It will be interesting to see how it is done in Swedish, some stabs at different styles:

Natural translations would not have "av" for "of", but if you had that you would flip the words essentially and end up with a more poetic but literal translation:
Trons byggare
Hoppets budbärare
Ljuset samlare

how a modern group names would be, compound nouns.
Trosbyggarna
Hoppbudbärarna
Ljussamlarna

And it came to pass that this phrasing sounded more Bible-y.

That seems right.

As an aside, I note that Dieter Uchtdorf counseled graduates during a BYU-Hawaii commencement address in December 2018 to be gatherers of light, citing Matthew 5:15-16 and John 8:12. (He did not cite D&C 50:24.) (The December 2020 Ensign featured an article by Elder Uchtdorf that similarly advised young adults to be a gatherer of light.) In the April 2000 general conference, Russell Nelson said: “We are to be creators in our own right—builders of an individual faith in God, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and faith in His Church.” The April 2020 Ensign published an article by Nelson in which he stated, “We are to be builders of an individual faith in God, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and faith in His Church.”

Hmmm. "Daughters of Eve" was too all encompassing for the trifurcation?

The church seems to think the women’s exodus is a branding issue rather than a structural one. You can’t treat half the membership like a supporting act and second class citizens for 190 years and then expect a rebranding campaign to stop the hemorrhaging.

Here is a much more realistic description of what these young women can expect from the church:

- The Modest Is Hottest Club (young women turning 12-13)

- Casserole Queens in Training (young women turning 14-15)

- Celestial Sister-Wives-In-Waiting (young women turning 16 or older)
