I gather he is being attacked for not prostituing his mind to Trump. God bless DCP.
Agreed. I don't see anything wrong with the blog post. I don't agree with all of DCP's political views, but I think it is OK to complain on a blog about a deliberately unidentified family member cutting ties on account of politics, especially when the offending act is criticism of Herr Drumpf.
Sure, if DCP had said, "Wow, I can't believe my Aunt Susie is dumb enough to support Trump! She cut me off for disagreeing with her bad choices. Good riddance!" That would be tacky.
"He disturbs the laws of his country, he forces himself upon women, and he puts men to death without trial.” ~Otanes on the monarch, Herodotus Histories 3.80.
I actually think Dr. P is being too kind. Trump zealotry has gone too far. To think, a family member would cut off another family member — a frequently controversial public figure for decades, no less — for daring to voice an occasional moderate view that might happen to maybe hint at calling out the utter absurdity of something done or said by Donald Trump? S/he arguably deserves to be publicly shamed for the benefit of posterity.
I don't agree with all of DCP's political views, but....
Can you imagine if Dr. Peterson started getting too liberal? The Interpreter Journal might feel compelled to write a hit piece on him. Not to worry, this board would help defend him.
What is wrong with DCP? This is not normal behavior by any stretch of the imagination.
Airing his family’s private issues on a public forum is not a sign of mentally healthy individual, or a sign that DCP values familial relationships.
I was just informed that it is indeed his daughter-in-law’s family. They are Florida Cuban-Americans and hardcore Republicans/Trump supporters. I’m sure they really appreciate DCP publicly complaining about them and their private conversation.
If anyone needed further proof that DCP is a complete ass.....
Huh. That's interesting, Everybody Wang Chung. I know that Dr. Peterson has come to blows with commentators on his blog due to his unwillingness to support Trump, but you nonetheless have to believe that he'd figure out a way to find common ground with *family members* who happen to also be Republicans/Conservatives. And it's interesting, per his story, that *he* was the one reaching out with a "holiday message." There's a part of me that hears that and says, "Yeah, right. You only called to engage in some passive-aggressive mockery and to pick a fight."

To think, a family member [or friend] would cut off another family member [or friend] ... for daring to voice an occasional moderate view
Sort of reminds me of what has happened between the Mopologists and folks like David Bokovoy and Brian Hauglid.
Just change a few of the words:
DCP wrote:I’m horrified at the way our current toxic version of the Gospel has divided friends and families, separating us into mutually exclusive, seldom-communicating, warring factions.

Well, do we know for certain that Trump was the reason? And look at this:
SeN wrote:My parents and my brother, s/he said, would be very disappointed in me.
That was clearly posted in an effort to shame whoever said it. Even if this really was what they said, why put it on "SeN"? Why do that--publicly--to a member of your family? Why not keep this dispute "within the fold," as it were?

I've sometimes found fault with the content or tone of Dr. P's blog post (and honestly, I've done so against my better judgment that tells me to "mind my own business", and have given in to some powerful inner desire to hope for better from the very apologists that were idolized by Mormon missionaries I befriended, one of whom was later mocked by these very apologists on a message board for expressing sentiments about questioning the Church and losing faith) ... all this to say that I now feel compelled to agree with Kishkumen's sentiments above.
And I know there are others here on this board who support Dr. P. in this. ("This" looking a lot like idle speculation to me regarding a personal comment that Dr. P. left deliberately vague.)
