I agree. What was your point?

That is an interesting response, but it makes me wonder why you'd be interested in posting to a forum on Mormonism if you weren't interested in a Mormon's perspective on things? My answer was trying to help you see that it wasn't out of fear of losing their authority that the leaders of the LDS Church don't address the issue we were discussing. I don't think if they answered thoughtfully and truthfully that there would be any change in that at all. No, the reason I suspect they don't answer the question is because of incompetence and stupidity.huckelberry wrote:Tobin, I am probably not the person to persue your view with for a Mormon context. I have long been Protestant and view the light of Christ as prophetic inspiration to a broad base of believers not special authorities . I think that broad base gives openings to change past mistakes.

Also, I do agree with you about the light of Christ. It inspires all men and our best hopes, aspirations, and desires arise from it.
gdemetz wrote:First of all, let me state that the reasons that I am writing this are twofold. The first is to show the beauty of non-man made, revealed religion, and the second is to try and dispel the myths associated with the athansian creed. The omnipresent entity in the universe is not any of the Godhead, but the light of Christ which is imminently connected to the Godhead. The vast "seas" of intelligences in the matter throughout the universe make up what is termed the light of Christ. As D&C 88 states, it is in all things, and it is, in fact, the power of God itself. Satan coveted this power, which was God's honor (see D&C 29) given by all these intelligences which sustain and support Him, not by force, but by their free will. This is how miracles are performed by natural law. These intelligences in the matter will obey God and move mountains at His command. This is the power Satan coveted. Furthermore, all those who "have been cleansed from sin every whit," as the Book of Mormon states, and have the priesthood authority from God, can also be delegated this power. THe Book of Mormon also states truly that if God were not just then He would cease to be God. Why? Because all these intelligences which make up the light of Christ would no longer support an unjust God, and His power would dissolve. Of course, I am confident that will never happen! Now I would like to ask a question. What man made religion could come up with such glorious truths?!?
Oh, I do not disagree that I'm outside the leadership cult that infects current Mormonism and feel no particular affinity to doing anything they command. I do believe the principles upon which Mormonism is founded are sound however. And I believe Mormons would have a lot fewer problems with other Christian sects if they stopped teaching a laundry list of idiotic and false doctrines like men can be God. As for myself, I am interested in all religions, not just Mormonism, and choose to view myself as someone with a Mormon background (I was an ex-Mormon/atheist at one time before I saw God) trying to come to terms with understanding God.huckelberry wrote:Tobin, I am not disinclined to talk Mormonism and mean no disinclination to regard your thoughts However it sounds to my ears that your position is enough outside of Mormon central that I am wondering why you would wish to remain tied to a group so centered on an authority which you do not respect.
