They're SHINY.

After getting cranky with you the other day, I must give credit where credit is due. That was funny.

Umm, there are 6 pages of posts detailing why we love and want smilies.

Here's my reasons:

1) They add color
2) They often can get across a message that loses it's meaning when typed (like "stop beating a dead horse" vs a smilie of the same)
3) They are useful for clarifying people's sarcasm (a big yellow smilie sticks out better than a ;) the same color as the rest of the text)

Well, duh - that's easily fixable. Just change the color of your ascii emoticon (asc-icon?). Then it will be obvious! ;) <----- See!

[/sarcasm]

I just like them 'cause I can type something rather cheeky and then put a cute little *tongie smilie* or *winkie smilie* at the end of my post and it sort of detracts from me being a smart ass.

Yup, a yellow smiley, just like Bond wanted. It's so simple, really. :oP <--- See - I did it again! Brilliant!

Bumping this thread to the top in hopes that Shades will change his mind.

Whoa - check it out! :O

Shades cares for his people. :D

edited to add: okay, maybe my excitement was premature. The cute yellow emoticons apparently translate over as text. But I see in my options that Smilies are OFF. I'll investigate. . . .

No, no...Shades is akin to Lenin, Hitler and Pot Pol. He cares NOTHING for the dregs that frequent his board. If he did, he would give us smilies. I'm sure he'd just as soon shoot us as look at us.

Again, I'd love to put a smilie to let everyone know my sarcasm with that post, but I can't...

I wonder if I can push Shades enough to be the first person banned on MDB??
