The biggest problem I have with a plot point is Rose stopping Finn from sacrificing himself. From the perspective of her knowledge, she just ensured the destruction of everyone including the person she saved for a few minutes. It makes her character emotionally impulsive to the point of being an idiot.

My interpretation of that is that she was sure there was a 0% chance of his plan to take out the battering ram cannon. But I would think that given the circumstances, taking a 0% chance was better than waiting to be killed on the enemy's terms.

Maybe she used to force to know that Luke was about to show up and save them?

Ok, I finally broke down and saw this damn movie. Family really wanted to go. I stand by everything I've said. The movie actually wasn't "quite" as bad as Force Awakens. I appreciated the way they kind of backhandedly acknowledged they went a little far with things when the new emperor trolled Kylo over getting his ass beat by a girl who had never picked up a light saber before. There was a brief Jeremiah Johnson style knod/grin moment of acknowledgement to the audience. Thanks for that.

But then of course they proceeded to immediately continue with the whole silly affair. Rey helps Kylo out in their fight against the guards. She sure was a badass for someone who still hasn't spent any real time training. Or did Kylo just happen to get the tougher guards? She sure seemed better with a light saber than him, who's trained his whole life with it, I'm so confused. And then you've got Luke being a huge indecisive bitch on the island, which goes on for hours. Some "jedi" he is. And he never does train Rei. He talks to her a little bit, like one time. But that's enough, she a badass and just "get it."

And don't get me started on the silly physics of being outrun and waiting for them to run out of fuel. Uh, why not light speed yourself up a little closer to them? You have a whole fleet of ships after all. And then the part about taking out the emperors ship by hitting it at light speed. I think they broke the laws of thermodynamics with that one, but it did look cool. And if that were a possibility, uh, why didn't somebody go kamikaze right from the start? This completely changes the nature of warfare. Just create drones and give them FTL drives, bam, you can Instagram destroy any enemy vessel. Cake. Oh, and why would you build a space bomber? How are these bombs dropping as if it's over a planet with gravity to pull them down. The ship isn't "that" big. And either way, again, why would you build a space "bomber" to begin with? SMH. Oh, but it looked cool.

Kylo Ren is the only interesting character that's kind of well acted. But they don't develop him at all. Rei is just awful. She's boring and monotone. Lea is more interesting and emotive, and that's even after turning herself into a robot face with excessive plastic surgery. Rei is so dull and predictable. The few hard things she's subjected to are so trite and superficial, easily overcome.

... and on and on and on...

All that being said though, the movie looked great. Beautiful scenery porn. Every world was new and interesting. As a work of art it's worth seeing. The plot though, yeah, pretty damned retarded. And honestly I'm really not sure where the movie took us. The storyline wasn't really advanced much.

The Snoke dressing down was a meta-joke poking fun at people like you Water Dog. The humor was touch and go in this film, but there was a couple of jokes along these lines that worked well.

Within the context of the films, Rey is portrayed, like Napoleon Dynamite, as really good with a bo-staff. They try to establish her as someone who has been training in martial combat for a while. Maybe you think that back story can't cash what the character then does, but it's the same movie that has an ex-stormtrooper be a jack of all trades, has Poe single handedly take on a star destroyer, etc. Of if you prefer the Old Testament, has heroes who are impossible targets to hit for trained soliders at close range. It'd be weird to single out her when it's just a conceit of the universe.

The Southwest apologetic for this in at least A New Hope is that the storm troopers are just putting on a show so the rescue party doesn't realize the Millennium Falcon is being tracked back to Yavin 4. But that doesn't explain all of the other movies, especially the Endor battle at the shield generator.

But worse than their inability to be shot, in my opinion, is their selective ability to hit small targets when needed for the plot (Shoot the panel, kid!) while being unable to hit storm troopers who are shooting at them with exposed major body parts far larger than the targets. Movie stuffs.

Why do the laser guns shoot lasers (light) at roughly 130 MPH and why are people able to dodge them?

And why does light coming out of a gun "kick" as if it a firearm?

How do you imagine laser guns, in space battles, function?
