The architect of Trump's immigration policy could be profiting off ICE's cruelty

If the Trump administration's determination to deport as many migrants as possible were just motivated by naked racism, that would be bad enough, but there is strong evidence that its main proponents, most notably Stephen Miller, are profiting financially from it.

Miller is reportedly the architect of that and so much more of Trump’s hard-line immigration policy, and while his anti-immigration fervor may be scratching some racist ideological itch, we learned Tuesday that it may also be making him money.

A new report from the Project on Government Oversight, or POGO, a nonpartisan nonprofit government watchdog group, found that, according to Miller’s recently released financial disclosures, he just so happens to own a significant stake — up to $250,000 — in the data analytics company Palantir, a company which stands to make millions of dollars off of Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Back in April, the Trump administration granted Palantir a no-bid $30 million contract to develop a new program called Immigration Lifecycle Operating System, or ImmigrationOS, which would effectively allow ICE to target and surveil migrants in real time.

According to public records reported by The New York Times, since Trump took office, Palantir has received more than $113 million in federal spending, and it stands to receive at least $795 million more. Right now, as POGO pointed out, Palantir is already the highest performing company in the S&P 500 this year, with its stock price rising by more than 80% in 2025 so far.

Miller’s investments in Palantir stock, according to the watchdog, “appear to have started after the first Trump administration ended.” POGO's report goes on to note, “In the years between Trump’s first term and his second, Miller meticulously planned for an unprecedented increase in immigration enforcement. Miller’s newest disclosure was filed in mid-March and signed off by a White House ethics official in early June.”

Miller’s Palantir stock is technically in a brokerage account for one of his young children but, as POGO pointed out, “that does not legally matter, according to the Office of Government Ethics, which says “an asset that is owned by a spouse or minor child is analyzed under 18 U.S.C. § 208 [the criminal conflict of interest law] as if the employee owns it.”

Don Fox, a former acting head and general counsel of the Office of Government Ethics, told POGO that Miller “could easily become involved in policy matters that have a direct and predictable impact on Palantir” and thereby his own stock portfolio.

Two people fighting the Bear Gulch fire on the Olympic Peninsula were arrested by federal law enforcement Wednesday, in a confrontation described by firefighters and depicted in photos and video.

Why the two firefighters were arrested is unclear. But a spokesperson for the Incident Management Team leading the firefighting response said the team was “aware of a Border Patrol operation on the fire,” that it was not interfering with the firefighting response and referred reporters to the Border Patrol station in Port Angeles.

Over three hours, federal agents demanded identification from the members of two private contractor crews. The crews were among the 400 people including firefighters deployed to fight the wildfire, the largest active blaze in Washington state.

Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday about the confrontation.

It is unusual for federal border agents to make arrests during the fighting of an active fire, especially in a remote area.

On Wednesday, the two contract fire crews were sent up to the northeast side of Lake Cushman to cut wood for the local community, according to two firefighters on one of the crews.

The firefighters requested anonymity because they feared retaliation from federal agencies for talking to the media.

While they were waiting for their division supervisor to arrive, federal law enforcement showed up around 9:30 a.m.

Federal law enforcement asked the crews to line up to check their IDs, according to the firefighters.

One of the firefighters said members of the crew were told not to take video of the incident.

“You risked your life out here to save the community,” the firefighter said. “This is how they treat us.”

In a FaceTime video call from the other firefighter to The Seattle Times, firefighters in their gear were seen sitting on logs in front of federal officers. Some firefighters were dismissed back to their vehicles.

One firefighter attempted to walk over to his company vehicle to get something to drink and appeared to have been called back by federal officers.

In images shared by firefighters from the scene, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle is parked nearby. Officers wearing “Police” vests are seen arresting a firefighter, while another appears to be restrained.

According to one of the firefighters, they were denied the chance to say goodbye to the detained crew members.

“I asked them if his (family) can say goodbye to him because they’re family, and they’re just ripping them away,” the firefighter told the Times. “And this is what he said: ‘You need to get the (expletive) out of here. I’m gonna make you leave.'”

As of Wednesday morning, there were six 20-person hand crews on the Bear Gulch fire, and five of those are private contractors. As of Wednesday morning the fire covered nearly 9,000 acres and was 13% contained.

Federal policy under President Joe Biden’s administration stated that without “exigent circumstances” agents would not conduct their operations at natural disaster or emergency sites. Whether that policy remains in place, however, remains unclear.

Federal officials have pursued aggressive immigration enforcement actions under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Why is there anyone who is not outraged by this? Does Trump himself actually approve of this himself, or have these ICE agents gone rogue in an excess of zealotry in service of Trump's insane agenda? If harassing and detaining even fire fighters heroically engaged in safeguarding valuable property and potentially even human lives is not beyond the pale, what is? Instead of sending immigration enforcement agents he should have sent trained federal Bureau of Land Management fire fighters to help contain and fight the fires! These are just a few of the outrages documented in the video. Anyone who approves of these actions are immoral reprobates, just about as bad as Trump himself, and deserve prison time, and are more worthy of deportation than most of the people ICE is going after at Trump's command!

There are even incidents of firemen arrested while holding firehoses trying to put out fires!

A man who jumped into the water and saved the life of kids who were being attacked by sharks was dragged away in shackles by ICE.

In fact, as everyone knows, Trump has already been prosecuted and found guilty of felony by a jury of his peers and would already be deservedly in prison had he not won the election. This was probably the main reason he ran for President in the first place and is desperately planning to find some way to unconstitutionally run for a third term!

This Trump tactic is a dire warning of something awful

In April, Jesús Escalona Mújicas, a 48-year-old construction worker near Bryan, Texas, was grabbed, detained, and ultimately deported in shackles to Venezuela under false charges that he was a member of the Tren de Aragua gang.

His story was detailed last week by the Texas Observer. He’d worked for the same employer, a Venezuelan Pepsi affiliate, for nearly two decades, and had no criminal history or record of gang activity.

Get this outrageous claim:

The arresting officers claimed his Air Jordans — a brand 24 percent of sneaker wearers in the U.S. reportedly own — were a symbol of gang membership.

Really?! Merely wearing a popular brand of athletic shoes is now proof of gang membership?!

Federal agents in President Donald Trump’s high-profile military occupation of Washington, D.C. are zeroing in on food delivery drivers, many of them on mopeds, making them easy targets for abduction, the Washington Post reports.

Christian Carías Torres, shot with a stun gun during his arrest, was branded a “suspected gang member,” an allegation, the Post noted, “the Trump administration has repeatedly used without providing evidence.”

Those rounded up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal policing agencies are far from the “worst of the worst” boasted by Trump in his campaign mass deportation pledge. ICE’s own data shows 72 percent of those detained “have no known criminal convictions or pending criminal charges,” as Fortune magazine reported in July.

To meet his arbitrary quota of seizures, deportation fanatic Stephen Miller scuttled any emphasis on the “worst” by racially profiling ordinary working people at Home Deport parking lots, farms, other work sites, and outside court hearings they’d attended to meet legal obligations. Numerous legal immigrants and even citizens continue to be grabbed.

Consider the following:

“The President does not want to see Haitians, Nicaraguans, Cubans, or Venezuelans here,” Escalona Mújicas said one of his arresting agents told him.

Can there be any more convincing proof than that that Trump and his minions are far more motivated by reprehensible, hateful bigotry than by any genuine concern for the safety and well being of American citizens?

Similarly, in the D.C. operation, ICE and other federal agents are avoiding “the city’s high-crime areas,” New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie wrote.

“There are soldiers patrolling the National Mall; armored vehicles parked at Union Station; and ICE agents manning checkpoints on U Street, an area known for its bars, restaurants, and nightlife. They’re not there for safety, but for show.”

“If Trump is genuinely concerned about the safety of D.C. residents, I would see National Guard in my neighborhood. I’m not seeing it, and I don’t expect to see it,” one resident of D.C.’s Congress Heights neighborhood told Times reporter Clyde McGrady.

“I don’t think Trump is bringing in the National Guard to protect Black babies in Southeast.”

Corollary consequences for the Gestapo-style raids and domestic military campaigns extend to the distortion of federal budget priorities. The D.C. occupation alone is costing $1 million a day, according to an analysis by Hanna Homestead of the National Priorities Project.

One less publicized provision of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” was the gift of $75 billion in extra funding for ICE, “making it by far the highest-funded law enforcement agency in the federal government,” CBS News reported.

National Nurses United researchers found far more useful ways to allocate that funding rather than on terrorizing immigrant families and communities.

For the same $75 billion, we could eradicate all medical debt accrued by 31 million people, cover over two years of universal pre-K for all 3- and 4-year-olds, pay for nearly all tuition and fees for students in public universities across the U.S., and substantially reduce the costs of child poverty in the nation or most of the homeless crisis in California. The same amount could also end both extreme and chronic hunger around the world for two years.

The militarization has a deeper, malevolent purpose, wrote Monica Potts in The New Republic.

“Trump isn’t actually worried about crime. He’s not trying to make the district safer for its residents, and he’s certainly not weighing the data and evidence when he calls on governors to send guardsmen. Parading troops through an American city is a brazen authoritarian power grab.”

"There is not a crime crisis in D.C.," former D.C. Metropolitan reserve police officer Rosa Brooks who now teaches at Georgetown Law School told NPR, which reiterated Justice Department data that crime in Washington has plummeted with violence reaching a 30-year low last year.

"This is police state territory, banana republic police state territory," Brooks said.

Potts notes: “This is what it means to learn to live in an authoritarian police state, and people are using the only tools they have: cell phones and sandwiches. The longer ICE raids and military takeovers go on, the more they will inspire protests around the country, which may be the only excuse Trump is waiting for to claim that cities are full of disorder and then crack down even harder.”

Trump says he is targeting Chicago and New York next for his next Democratic majority-city occupations. He may also have in mind “an intimidation tactic to try to suppress voters in cities ahead of the 2026 midterm,” Potts observes.

“It’s definitely part of Trump’s only true and unwavering project: consolidating power (Italics added). Even as he’s posting on Truth Social about crime in D.C., he’s cheering efforts in Texas to redraw district maps to elect more Republicans to the House next year and launching an effort to get rid of mail-in ballots.”

As with Trump’s march to autocratic power, the parallels with Hitler and Nazi Germany are unmistakable and should be chilling to everyone. Within two months of being handed power by the conservative old guard Weimar Republic in January 1933, Hitler made two major moves, as Peter Fritzsche describes in Hitler’s First Hundred Days.

First, he persuaded his conservative coalition partners to call for new elections by early March.

Then, the Nazis engineered or at least exploited a fire in the Reichstag in late February, Germany’s Capitol building, to invoke emergency decrees. They served, Fritzsche notes, to “suspend civil liberties, expand protective custody” and other authoritarian powers that “symbolized the death of representative government and the rule of law.”

It also gave the Nazis the opening to complete a takeover of German policing to engage in arrests, detention, and violent assaults on all political opposition.

Coupled with the election, in which the Nazis increased their political power through domination of the media, mobilization of state resources, demonization of their version of “enemies from within” (mainly Jews and Communists), and the traumatizing impact of an increased militarization, Hitler and the Nazis had the means to manufacture mass consent, silence dissent, and cement fascist rule.

Potts is unimpressed with much of the Democratic leadership response. She cites Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s dismissal of Trump’s takeover of D.C. as a “political ploy” and an “attempted distraction” from problems like the tariffs and Epstein files. But, she emphasizes, “the federal agents and troops are not the distraction. They are the whole point — quite literally the spear in Trump’s increasingly fascist assault on American democracy.”

Democratic leaders, Potts added on the Daily Blast podcast with Greg Sargent, “should start calling things like they see them and they should say, you’re not coming to our cities, you’re not coming to our towns with the military, you’re not going to turn this country into a dictatorship. The idea that there’s still time is really critical. And voters like it when elected leaders fight for them.”

That is the immediate challenge we face with Trump and Trumpism today.

During Wednesday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” the comedian told audiences they need to think outside their “ideological bubble” and ditch the left-versus-right logic when it comes to who falls where on the political spectrum.

Pointing out how much the Democratic Party’s policies have shifted over his lifetime, Rogan said people like President Bill Clinton would be considered conservative if “1996 standards applied to today.”

He said the same of Clinton’s wife and two-time presidential hopeful, calling her take on the border “hardcore.”

“Like, that is a hardcore right-wing 2026 perspective,” he went on.

It seems like the numbers support Rogan and Thompson’s claims. According to Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement deported 3.1 million people during Obama’s two terms in office.

The nonpartisan research organization, which calculates its statistics straight from official government data, reported that Trump oversaw about 932,000 deportations during his first term.

You have to remember that statistics that say Obama and Bush deported more people than Trump are counting people these administrations turned away at the border as deportations. Under Trump, nobody even dares cut to the front of the line and asks to come on in. When studies claim that sales taxes paid by illegal immigrants are enough to offset any public benefits they consume, you have to understand that these statistics never include the cost of illegal immigrant children, public schooling, interpreters, food stamps, medicaid expenses, or the cost I pay for the highway that you all claim that even my taxes doesn't cover. If my taxes don't even cover my share of highway and road costs, how the hell can an illegal immigrant cover his share only by paying a sales tax? How much does it cost every citizen who gets hit by an illegal immigrant driving without valid insurance? As the old saying goes, if it weren't for DUI, nobody would ever have gotten deported.

And let's be real, if Donald Trump really were softer on immigration than Barack Obama, WJC, or GWB, would the Democrats really be causing the current level of chaos and suffering for the American people they currently are causing to keep illegal immigrants in the country and reopen the southern border to anyone willing to vote Democrat at the American taxpayers' expense? If illegal immigrants aren't voting in elections, then why are you so scared of having ICE agents at polling locations that it's worth ending all air travel?

You have to remember that statistics that say Obama and Bush deported more people than Trump are counting people these administrations turned away at the border as deportations. Under Trump, nobody even dares cut to the front of the line and asks to come on in.

And what is the difference between a legal immigrant, an illegal immigrant, and a poor American, in what they end up paying in Federal taxes at low income levels after the standard deduction? Meanwhile, how much tax is withheld from the paycheck of any illegal worker using a stolen SSI number, that they can never receive in their old age? That money will go to legal Americans, instead.

Do illegal workers buy houses or pay rent? Because either way, they’re paying property taxes. And they’re not taking a deduction from it like you do.

If illegal workers are using a stolen SSI number, how is their withholding not also going to federal and state coffers, yet unrecoverable to them at tax time? If these illegal workers are instead being paid low wages under the table, how much is that saving you on everyday expenditures like food, construction or infrastructure?

I think that there are some legit concerns about some medical care systems financially stressed from ‘free birth care’ incidents, but this will happen with poor Americans as well, and I’m not sure that there aren’t more clever or financially sound ways of countering that than spending $75 Billion to half-train a bunch of good ol’ boys to play Real Life Call of Duty and start shooting actual Americans in the face and head just so that MAGA can get their thrills. As it were, you probably saved more in a month on produce alone than you pay out in a year in extra taxes to cover the costs you imagine are incurred by the presence of illegals.

And let's be real, if Donald Trump really were softer on immigration than Barack Obama, WJC, or GWB, would the Democrats really be causing the current level of chaos and suffering for the American people they currently are causing to keep illegal immigrants in the country and reopen the southern border to anyone willing to vote Democrat at the American taxpayers expense?

You should Just Say No to BS, especially when anyone can look up the facts independent of MAGA’s weird infatuation with crazy claims about illegals voting, and then know that those claims are BS. Then you just end up looking like a crazy old man.
