What are the pre-req's for presenters? What criteria must be met? Any?

Anybody who wants to propose a presentation for SMPT must submit a written proposal to the organization. (I would imagine that the call for proposals for next year's meeting will go out sometime around 1 January 2010.) Submissions are distributed without names attached among the members of the Society's board, with two to three board members reviewing, evaluating, and making up or down recommendations for each submission. In the event of a tie or some other ambiguity, other members of the board are invited to weigh in. If a paper is accepted, it's accepted. There is no requirement that the person submitting a proposal be a member of the Society, or of the Church, or that he or she possess any particular degree.

Gadianton began to claim that his proposal had been accepted by the SMPT board before the SMPT board had received any proposals, before any proposals had been parceled out to board members, and, thus, considerably before the board had begun to evaluate any proposals.

Behold, harmony, prostrate on the floor, red ink pen completely empty....

Yup, I'm a 3rd grader. You want to share the Twinkie my mom packed for me?

And come on, Jersey: no one is more of a tattle-tale on this board than you. How many, "Keene, I need a word!" Or "Shades, I need a word!" threads have you started? Over half a dozen at least.

you know what, LoaP, you are right. Just like those kids were who pushed me to jump off the ramp that was horribly built. Jumping off proved to their satisfaction that I wasn't scared to. And do you remember this, "If thou be the Son of God, turn those stones into bread!" Jumping off a cliff and turning stones into bread technically wouldn't have proven that Jesus was the Son of God, but it would have been good enough for the devil.

Get thou behindest me.

Gadianton didn't present a paper in Claremont, and he probably didn't submit a proposal to SMPT. Certainly, no proposal by Gadianton was accepted for presentation.

He's masquerading as an over-the-top Scratchist, and his airy fabrications are intended to spoof the equally airy fantasies of the grimly serious Scratch.

That's good enough for me, Daniel. Thanks.

That's odd, since it seems that you were allowed to present without even submitting an abstract. (Or, at the very least, your abstract was not made available on the SMPT website.)

Abstracts and proposals are different things. I submitted a proposal. It was evaluated and accepted.

I was asked to submit an abstract, but I didn't. I was grading senior theses, and then I was in the Middle East. I didn't have time to create an abstract, and I told them that I likely wouldn't. But my proposal had already been evaluated and accepted.

I'm reasonably confident that Gadianton didn't submit a proposal, and certain that no proposal from Gadianton was accepted. Why? Because all those whose proposals were accepted actually presented in Claremont (except for Margaret Toscano, who had a family emergency at the last minute). But Gadianton is definitely not Margaret Toscano -- for one thing, her topic was utterly unrelated to his bogus proposal topic -- and he didn't present. Ergo, no proposal from Gadianton was accepted by the SMPT evaluators.

He's laughing at you, Scratch. So am I.
