I am not necessarily a critic of the catholic church. But since I was born and raised catholic, I know some things about it. Howver, if I wanted to show that the LDS church is not the only church with an imperfect history, I can also bring martin luther and what he said about the jews. However, what he said about the jews doesn't seem to concern the lutherans very much nor does it concern the exlutherans.

It bothers me. As do the failings of all religious leaders. Luther's very unkind teachings about Jews (along with those of the Catholic Church) created the atmosphere in a European populace for what would become the Holocaust.

Racial intolerance is always an evil. The shortcomings of other religions does nothing to mitigate the shortcomings of the LDS Church.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Please read history. I meant colonialism as a world movement where western countries went into other countries and influenced their choice of faith and culture. Thus, Brazil speaks portugese and the rest of latin ameica speaks spanish. Haiti speaks french etc.

It's disingenuous of you to only quote part of my post. What history are you referring to, that I've given evidence that I haven't read?

Cool. Any references?

I didn't see any answer to this. I'm not sure where Adam-God comes in, but Kathleen Flake's The Politics of American Religious Identity: The Seating of Senator Reed Smoot, Mormon Apostle makes a strong case that the first vision was a replacement identity narrative after polygamy was halted. I.e., With the abandonment of polygamy, there was a huge void in how Mormons viewed themselves as the chosen people. By showcasing the first vision story as a center piece, the Mormon identity as different and chosen had room to flourish again. The book is a great read on many fronts. I bet you'd enjoy it, Stem.

And, KA - the flip chart was hilarious! thanks for posting it!

Incorrect mocha breath. Since the 1500's many in the Americas were being forced to choose Catholicism or death. The spaniards were doing it before the pilgrims arrived and didn't stop just because someone else landed on the East Coast and made it New England and the colonies.
