Technically what you have is Nephi claiming God told him to kill Laban.

That’s exactly right. Unless it’s a made up story in which case you have Joseph Smith putting forward the idea that it’s okay to kill if you think God has told you to.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

MG, I think that Doc Steuss has written some sensible words about this in his recent post linked below:MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 9:29 pmThere has been much said on this in the last few days, so I don't know that it necessarily bears repeating. What I'd be interested in is the take of progressives/liberals. What caused Tyler Robinson to make such a sudden and clean break from his conservative family and their values? Simply teenage rebellion? That led to murder? What are your thoughts, canpakes? An anomaly?

I don’t claim Steuss to be a progressive/liberal, whatever that means to you (and noting that we’ve even had a thread started by someone who claimed he’d define it but then ducked out, unable to do so). Myself, I’ve openly heckled the idea that several months at a relatively conservative Utah university setting (and you know this school and setting) somehow reprogrammed nearly two decades of an aggressively conservative family environment. Neither do I place much faith in the idea that Tyler’s decision to enter into a relationship with someone who is transitioning mean that the other individual somehow was able to place an evil spell on Tyler. And, of course, I doubt that some time at an electrical trade school rewired his brain during practice sessions of rewiring residences. That still leaves a possible combination of these and so many other outside influences, and biology. I’ll leave it up to you to take that to the next point in the conversation.
That said, where does your own mind take you? I’m interested in your opinions. You elected to not say much when I asked you what of Kirk’s public conversations served to unite the disparate elements of the political social sphere as opposed to further dividing and entrenching it, but maybe Tyler’s mindset is a topic you might chat about. And I’m good if you want to defer to simply blaming the presence of ‘evil’, but I may ask you your opinion on if either side of the political fence is somehow more susceptible to evil.

It’s coming out now that he was heavily in to whatever goes on in the back waters of the online virtual world that deal with counter cultural influences and the darker side of human nature. At the very least, not anywhere near mainstream. Not being an inhabitant of those areas on the internet I can’t speak to the specifics. What seems to be the case, however, is that the radicalization of his beliefs that then led him to think that killing an innocent man somehow served a greater purpose may have been influenced by online activity.canpakes wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 12:04 amMG, I think that Doc Steuss has written some sensible words about this in his recent post linked below:MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 9:29 pm

Governor Cox has made it quite clear that it is his opinion/conclusion that online influences of one kind or another whether it be gaming or dark web chat rooms and/or social media are taking many of our youth away from us to places that would have scared the heck out of us even in the not so distant past.
Unfortunately, for years now, many of the elite know it alls in society have poo poo’d the idea that online influences can have harmful effects on young people.
And here we are.
Question. If Tyler had not been actively participating in online gaming forums and chat with like minded individuals would he have shot and killed Charlie Kirk? That’s a question I suppose we will never have a definitive answer for. But I have my concerns that for a generation now we are seeing many of our youth swept away into ‘strange roads’.
And ther are many adults that actually think that’s pretty cool. Kids exploring and ‘finding themselves’ online influences artificial environments. The great experiment is taking place in human engineering. With Zuckerberg and others at the vanguard.

That’s all just woo woo MaGa-slanted speculation on your part. Here’s what we actually know. Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk. He did so because, in Tyler’s own wordsMG 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 3:59 amIt’s coming out now that he was heavily in to whatever goes on in the back waters of the online virtual world that deal with counter cultural influences and the darker side of human nature. I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out.
"I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights." Charlie Kirk, April 2023.

Those are also questions worth considering. It may be a mixed bag.Gadianton wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 2:51 pmQuestion: if Tyler had never been raised Mormon and exposed to gun culture would he have shot and killed...?MG wrote:Question. Actually, that’s just one more thing that seems to lend towards Book of Mormon authenticity. I don’t think that Joseph Smith would have written the storyline with that particular twist. But that’s just me. I don’t think he would have even been thinking “it’s OK to kill if God tells you to”. It would have gone against his moral compass of “thou shall not kill.”I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 10:49 pmThat’s exactly right. Tyler Robinson, one might assume, knew better but had been twisted by cultural/online influences.

Any time I see you kick into the “woo woo” accusation in regards to what I’m proposing/saying you’ve pretty much lost me. Why? Because it shows your ears/mind/heart are closed other than to that which you find within your dark enclosed box of black and white belief/views. You have been duped into thinking that the materialistic/secular humanist worldview is the ONLY way one should view the world. Everything else is “woo woo”.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 6:40 amThat’s all just woo woo MaGa-slanted speculation on your part.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 3:59 amIt’s coming out now that he was heavily in to whatever goes on in the back waters of the online virtual world that deal with counter cultural influences and the darker side of human nature. You have nothing to offer except criticism of that which you do not understand and/or believe. Nothing. It’s sad. Rather than build up, tear down. What a way to live.
