Canaanites weren't black, Droops. They were closely related to the Hebrews. Judah even married a Canaanite.

The church slogan before 1978.

"We have taken up arms in defense of our liberty, our property, our wives, and our children; we are determined to preserve them, or die."

The problem is all black people look the same, so you can't expect the church leaders to always get it right when they denied the priesthood. If god wanted the church to be precise in their priesthood denials, he would have made the mark more obvious.

Wait just a doggone minute, partner! Didn't Droopy tell us that church leaders investigated a person's genealogy going back thousands of years, in order to determine that a person in fact came from the "lineage of Cain"? And that black skin was just a tip-off that a given person's lineage might need a little more scrutiny? You know, a sort of LDS spiritual "racial profiling"?
Or perhaps LDS leaders possessed highly refined Caindar - you know, a sort of subclass of the Spirit of Discernment.
I'm still waiting for Droopy to show that the LDS Church leaders ever took a person's "lineage" into consideration with regard to the priesthood, at a level of granularity any finer than "Is he black? If so, is he descended from Africans?"
He wants us to believe this was about lineage, not about race. But all the evidence shows that only race was considered, and not a shred of evidence has been presented, ever, by any apologist or believer I've ever encountered, that "lineage" was considered any deeper than Africa.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
