What came to mind for me was the John Derbyshire firing.

You didn't see it the first time, so I assumed larger letters would help you see it the second. I'm not responding to your pointless "points".

That would be called a discussion, as in "Mormon Discussions."

Really? I thought this board was called the more accurate "everyone mock and belittle Mormonism and it's adherents", because that's what I see happening here most of the time.

Still waiting for your point by point engagement.

Sometimes people's words can be revealing of their assumptions, regardless of their conscious intentions. I think it is entirely fair to say that, regardless of a lack of conscious, personal animus toward black people, these two exhibit a cultural racism that is reminiscent of the more explicitly stated and odious views of John Derbyshire.

Express your concern over their views. I don't' mind. To take their words and stories to mean something not intended, well, there's something there. I'd say it stems from personal hostility. HOpe it clears up.

I think they fully intended to credit slavery with the improved condition of black people's lives as inhabitants of this country as opposed to residents of Africa. In fact, that is precisely what they said. So, I fail to see the problem. They think that is okey-dokey cool. I do not. That is a disagreement. I see no problem with articulating the difference and discussing why I think their interpretation is objectionable.

Contrafactual history may be an interesting pastime, but it is very treacherous business and certainly should not inform one's views on racial relations.

Oh yes. Because of this article, wasn't it?

When you have some valid points, I might engage.

Okay. From your above words I conclude that you believe Charles in Charge is the greatest television show to ever be produced.

Yup. This is Derbyshire's reasoning, and it is not all that different from the kind of garbage that Scrhyver offered on his blog. It is, in my view, simply the flip side of the same coin.

Stop behaving like an idiot, Simon.

If you don't understand what we are talking about, spend some time mulling it over. When you grasp it, then come back and talk to us. Your response makes it abundantly clear that you are clueless on this point. Know when to cut and run, guy. You really aren't doing anyone, including yourself, any favors here.

Why you of all people would come to the defense of the guy who held you to be an object of ridicule is puzzling to me. Schryver always thought you were a joke. Now you go out of your way to defend him.
