Thankfully, you have the protection of the reason and rationale of the secular world and the rule of law that prevents the religious beliefs of others to be imposed upon you.

Yes, I believe. I can also know for myself. Truth is truth, whether you accept it or not.

Themis wrote:OK. We seem to be discussing this on two threads, but then I guess they both started on about the Book of Mormon story of Nephi killing Laban.

I am going to assume this is the method you are talking about for your own experiences, or at least similar to that. In the other thread I listed these as very difficult to know one is getting the right interpretation, especially since we are taught exactly the interpretation we should get. It's also a circular argument. I wonder how many of us as children were praying about the Book of Mormon and then waiting to get that burning in the bosom. This kind of experience involving burning of the bosom, and other feelings, thoughts, emotions, etc seem to be quite common around the world, and people seem to get all kinds of different messages, some about objective truth claims.

Like I said earlier, if we can't agree on the premise of being able to discern whether our own experiences are real or not, then further discussion on this matter is rather pointless.

Furthermore, I gave one interpretation of a witness, but there are others, and it boils down to a sure knowledge...even though you seem to think such is impossible.

I think you have plenty of evidence from people in your own life. For those who are dead you could read journals, letters and such. I am sure they are plenty in which we don't have enough evidence. So what. I have already shown you can prove love.

I'm talking about another's love, people not in my life...how do you prove that? You talk about evidence, but you don't seem to accept the evidence of a spiritual witness, which is manifest by the actions regarding it.

All they need to be is individual, since that was what you were asking about.

And you can't prove another's personal feelings absolutely (one way or another)...only your own.

No. You can write any stupidity here. We read everything.
I would be happy if You could explain it. Can You?

as far as I know, in Mormonism and in christianity I know nothing about prohibiting to write of the words God, GOD, god, or even gOD.

Well, you probably know already about the superstitious ancient mid-east tribal belief that their deities could be controlled (much like a genie in a lamp) by a person discovering and invoking their secret names.

That's where the "name in vain" commandment came from, and it's carried on in Mormon temple ceremonies, with the secret name to be used to pass through the veil to the next life.

As for why a modern person (especially a non-Jew) would avoid typing the full word "god," which isn't even a name, but a generic description, I haven't a clue.

Not bother, puzzle. Please explain yourself.

As I have stated, I know that some (but by now means all) religious Jews adopt this practice, and I know the reasons for it, but I have never seen it in writings by Mormons or any other kind of Christian before. Mormons in particular seem to refer frequently to various personal names that they believe refer to their deity, and in that they are following the practice of past Mormon prophets. Were they at fault?

Or are your reasons for doing this secret?

I guess that those not paying attention include the lord.

I was referring to those who believed Hoffman...while LDS leaders aren't infallible, I don't recall Hinckley saying he thought they were genuine. Yes, he bought them, but it seems as if he was simply trying to determine their authenticity, and relied on the judgements of experts, rather than seeking divine counsel on the matter.

So, men of G-d aren't infallible, but we can trust them to be right when God tells them to kill someone.

Apparently, you do not believe in G-d or the Devil. Fine, that's your right and opinion. No need to mock others their's.

Is this childish behavior really necessary?
