Keep digging. A residential Comcast IP is one thing. But you're wrong, sir, and you're lying now. Some businesses, as well as government and academic institutions, are identifiable by IP addresses. I'm sure you know this. Nice straw man attempt. My vote is officially "No" on Sledge.
Large mega corporations (like GE), major universities, and major government entities are not people, my dear fellow.
Suppose I was posting from the guest WiFi of a GE plant. How many plants do they have across the world? How many employees in each plant? How many guests at any given time?
I appreciate that anyone would volunteer to do the thankless job of moderating, especially on this board. Kudos to you all. For the most part, I think we have a great candidate list.
I was happy that Sledge put his name forward and was about to lend my support to his efforts, until he opened his raincoat to expose his cluelessness about the use of IP addresses in doxing.

I assure you an IP address, without a legal warrant, is harmless. I am not clueless on this.
And it has no bearing on my ability to be an effective moderator.

And Sledge, who is desperate to be a moderator here, even for just 90 DAYS!, is online friends with Peterson, has outstanding posts attacking Shades on SeN, and has referred to board members here as anti-Mormon bigots. Only after his posts were exposed, he apologized and said he was just 'trolling' Shades.
Yes, that's a vote of no confidence from me, too.
No one has done this, because it’s literally impossible.
How easy it would be for Sledge to share IP addresses with interested parties, which has actually been done on other boards to in order for Mopologists to identify places of employment and ultimately a near bullseye identification of people who are now active at this very board today.
Just to clarify, you think it is impossible to use an IP address to narrow down pieces of information for identification purposes?
Sledge. The ability to reveal someone else's IP address is powerful. Let's say that scattered about in your posting history over the past few years, you've told the board you're an English Professor, did your undergrad at BYU, are an active LDS who contributed to Al Gore's campaign, and that you're a combat veteran of the First Gulf War. Adding geographical information to that mix, it wouldn't be too hard for someone to do a little research and narrow it down to find your identity. Surely you know that.

Not everyone uses a VPN. Combined with other information, an IP address can help pinpoint an identity.

Of course. Combined with other information your username here can be used to help identify you. A regional linguistic flourish you e used on this board can help identify you. Lots of things can help identify you.

Don’t be silly!
No silliness here. Your confident wrongness on this point sends a stronger signal of malicious intent by the minute. Maybe just knock it off.

An IP alone cannot identify you.
Keep moving those goal posts Sledge. My my, you're one conniving sneakster.

Yes. An IP alone cannot identify you more than your username on this board, a regional linguistic flourish you may have used, or a comment about the weather in your area.
I think you've tipped your hand, Sledge.
You very clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.
My daughter is a CCIE. I helped her study for all of her exams. That doesn’t mean I’m an expert, but I know my IP addressing.
