DCP Responds to Getting "Fired" from the Review

Yeah, I know that my list didn't include the chief officer (President) but served to show the real powers of BYU that are over Jerry Bradford. The Board knows what's going on in the departments. That's what they get paid to do. And you can be sure Jerry is perfectly safe in canning DCP. He had his orders from higher up. DCP is a liability to the church. He needs to be less vocal.

No. Bradford and his colleagues have simply been attempting to bring the MI from being irrelevant in academic discourse to something of value. This has been a long process. Attempts were made to bring Peterson in-line, but rather than caring about being taken seriously by the broader academic and scholarly world (or even just Mormon studies scholars in general), he was more concerned with his ego and his cult-following of fan-boy apologists. It was decided that for the good of the MI, Peterson had to go.

Peterson was academically irrelevant. That's the driving force.

Bradford's no idiot here. He's a scholar. The only idiots here are those who see some conspiracy in this.

In fact, the general rule for virtually all conspiracies is that they are supported by idiots.

Oh please. Despite what his ego may have wanted you to believe, he was irrelevant to the overall happenings of the Church. He was no savior or liability. He (and his MSR), however, was a liability to the academic integrity of Mormon studies, something that Bradford was passionate about.

The First Presidency and the apostles are very concerned about their flagship. They watch it closely -- they have plenty of time on their hands for that.

No. As I have been very clear about. Bradford didn't "just up" and do anything. This has been in the works for a while--and perhaps why Dan claimed his wife (who I find much more personable than he) saw happening.

You are really giving Dan far too much credit. He was no giant that needed The Brethren's (TM) approval to slay. He was simply a hindrance to the academic and scholarly goals of Bradford and his colleagues at the MI. Stuff like this is not all that uncommon with journals, academic societies, and such. Academia is a quagmire of egos and politics.
