You guys are killin me.
With church growth at its fastest growth rate in history, and with it the language difficulties. With all of the problems and difficulties the church has in Africa, in Asia, in South america. With the problems of translating the scriptures into so many other languages. With thousands of missionaries in the field, with special needs distribution includeing bedding, clothing and medical supplies to the far flung corners of the earth. With encouragement to the members to study more and get to the temple.... yes with all this, its hard to imagine why the General Authorities don't spend their time pouring through the topics on the fair boards to find out how the dissidents feel.
Frankly, Your nuts to think that the brethren have time to deal with this type of discussion. They are far to busy watching miricles happen through the power of Gods living priesthood, and getting the active members to use their priesthood to have miricles happen in their own lives. You are all of coarce invited to return and join in.

You actually make an excellent point, Gaz. Which is: Why should the Church be wasting its time and money on things like the Strengthening the Members Committee, or on trying to correlate the various departments within the Church bureaucracy that deal with dissidents? Why should the Church be asking scholars like Prof. Peterson to spend four hours of his life interrogating a questioning member? Why eat up valuable ecclesiastical time even bothering to hold disciplinary courts?
Your point reminds of the firing of Prof. Jeffrey Nielsen, and the fact that BYU just went ahead and booted him without first making absolutely certain that students wouldn't be deprived of an instructor. As we all know, the Church always has its priorities straight!

Why did the church and the GA's just spend $2 billion on a shopping mall? Oh yeah... those priorities are so straight. And yes, I think the GA's have their underlings watching FAIR and assorted other websites, although I'd be very surprised if the GAs themselves ever visit. Gotta keep the members under their thumb; can't have anything remotely like independent thought going on in the ranks.

I remember on my mission (Scotland) hearing about secretaries or something that would go through public press publications (newspapers, magazines etc...) looking for mentions about the church. Be they good or evil, they woudl make a record of them, clip them out, whatever. So if that goes on in Great Britain, I have no doubt it goes on here as well.
So yes, some things are being monitored, but I don't think general authorities themselves are doing any of it.

Hate to pop your bubble and rain on your parade, but umm the Mormon growth rate is actually SLOWING.
Speaking of translating the Book of Mormon into other languages, why didn't they just ask the magic man Wrickley Hinckley, after all he is a Seer no?
Old Joe translated it from a pretend language into Victorian English, so why not have another magic seer stoner translate the Victorian English into some other language?
LEmme guess, cuz Eloher(one of them) took that outta Elohim's honey-do jar?

Do you happen to have some inside information that the rest of us don't have? I've been hearing that the numbers are slowing down. And what with all the people resigning their memberships, one must wonder if they are making anyway headway at all anymore.
Would love to see some figures that would suggest the church is growing faster than in the 80's or even the 90's, which is what you suggest with the above quote. That would really be a surprise. Have you got any?

Gaz I have to agree with you to a point on this. I don't think that the GAs are doing this on a regular basis, they don't have to. But just like in your first paragraph above as an example, a secretary is doing the leg work. The church is ran like a business and the CEO in a business is kept in the know on the competitors in a business, I am sure it is the same with the church. I am sure there is a PR group with a secretary or some other hireling doing this work for the GAs.
Besides they have guys like Dr. Pastry that monitors what is said here, at FAIR, at the Think Tank and RfM. I am sure that the other Mopologists are monitoring it all too. Just recently a thread merely mentioned the anointed ScareCrow and how long did it take for him to post his one and only post and then edit his post to this
...............................................................
All that in about 2 hours. They are all monitoring, the Wrong-headed Wench, all of them. I can't believe they are not breifing someone in the church. But that could be good, we can't trust them and really the church shouldn't.

I think at the time that it was just checking on what is said, both positively and negatively about the church. Kind of like the churchs finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.
What I mean by "fastest growing" is that there ar ecurrently more members of Gods church on the earth, and in its growth rate, than any time from the time of Adam till now.

The Catholics would disagree with you. As would the Muslims. And the Jews.

just tell them
So, if this bothers you so much, why don't you just write a letter to any one of the Brethren and tell them about FAIR? I don't understand why all the bluster and hemhawing about it all. It is very childish and boooooring. He said/she said to the NTH degree, if you ask me.
Carry on, if you must.
